"Popcorn"

As for many of us, I have some pretty strong event/food associations and one thing I haven’t been able to be satisfied with is keto treats instead of popcorn at the movies. I found a replacement that will work! Unlike most cheese crackers, these are little smooth balls and super buttery! Nice 2oz bag, 4.5g carbs if you ate the whole thing(would disagree it’s 4.5 servings per bag, haha). Ingredients:cheddar cheese. Yay!

Yes, I’ve had these. Though I got mine at Costco, so I imagine the bag was a weeee bit bigger.:joy:

I’ll have to “weigh” the cost benefit to serving restriction, lol. I’m paying a hefty price at WF but limited to 2oz. Suppose I could get the value bag and split it up. If I don’t take it to the movie, I can’t eat it right?

I’ll bet it’s not much more expensive than the ridiculous price of popcorn at the movies - $.25 worth of corn, “golden flavor” and salt, and a $10 cardboard bucket, apparently.

(Tina Emmons) #5

Good point! Even at $3.99 it’s a steal!!:sunglasses:
Yeah, can you imagine what’s in that “butter?” Yuck!

I almost bought these today.

I love the pepper jack ones, but for some reason the last couple bags have annoyed me, from a texture standpoint–they sort of “squeak” when I chew them. Maybe I’ve developed some weird OCD. Wisps and other all-cheese snacks don’t do this though. I could also have a sensitive tooth. Must fix this asap!

Like popcorn! Lol! See, I told ya so!:joy:

#9

haha. good point! I do think I have an issue with a tooth. random things have started bugging me in a particular spot–not pain but just a sensation. I need to get back into my moon cheese!

I think weight watchers has something like this product.

I love this stuff! Have seen it at Starbucks and Costco. I agree that the Costco Suze bag must be divided up into portions. I wish I could figure out how to make this, but it probably involves done technology to puff up the cheese.

Old school.

Popcorn actually has less sugar and starch than regular corn. 2.5 cups of popped popcorn has about 13 net carbs. The carbs in popcorn are also slower carbs then what is in regular corn so if your meals that day are very low carb you can actually get away with eating a small amount when you go to the movies.

(Karen) #14

Awww thanks. Might do that some day. Not yet. Struggling with gateway carbs.

But what about the oil they cook it in (probably vegetable) and the fake butter topping (probably some type of margarine)?

You can abstain from the topping but you can’t get away from the oul it was popped with.

Unless you air pop it and take it yourself.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #16

Apparently, CSPI forced the movie chains to switch to some godawful concoction of seed oils. Doesn’t even taste like real butter. :frowning:

:rage: Nastiness.

“Your movie theater butter has no butter in it, but it does have partially hydrogenated soybean oil (a.k.a. trans fats), beta carotene (a coloring, makes carrots orange), tertiary Butylhydroquinone or TBHQ (synthetic preservative that keeps the color and texture from changing as the product sits), polydimethylsiloxane (silicone based chemical that prevents foaming), and, wait for it, buttery flavoring,” says Extra Crispy. Yes, you read that right. “Buttery flavoring.” What the heck is buttery flavoring? We need answers.

Just when we thought that was the end of the bad news, there’s more. Apparently, this faux butter has 20 more calories per tablespoon than our real, beloved butter. Not only are we being conned out of the real deal, but we’re also consuming more calories.

I pop it in coconut oil and sneek it in myself. Back in the day theaters used to pop it in coconut oil too but in the 90’s it was highly publicised that movie theater popcorn hand more fat than several big macs so theaters switched to vegetable oil. It tastes much better with coconut oil though.
