POLL: How do you take your coffee?

(Doug) #41

Aye - the bun or coffee roll part. :stuck_out_tongue:

Today I drank really too many coffees… Sweetish ones. The sweetness of the water simply overpowers the barely existing bitterness of my tiny amount of well chosen instant coffee.
I don’t know why I am like this, Hungarian people tend to drink strong coffee but well, we aren’t all the same  My national identity is hale, I use enough paprika and sour cream and pork fat for it.

$3.46? I don’t want to spend so much money for all my zillion coffees in a month!
Coffee is an unnecessary luxury to me so it’s good I eat so weak ones (and I keep trying to lower the frequency of my coffee drinking too).
Of course there are times when one thinks differently. I never forget the not so extra but expensive coffee at a gas station when we crossed the country in 3-7 Celsius rain on a motorbike… It wasn’t fun.
And of course, getting experience points is pretty important too

I have never paid much attention to cold brew. When you drink it do you drink it cold? Warm it up? If so, how? Stove top, microwave?

(Bob M) #44

I brew my coffee cold, and also drink it cold. However, you could heat it up in a micro or on the stove or whatever.

The brewed coffee is also concentrated, so you can dilute it as much or as little as you want. Currently, I’m taking 1/2 cup of cold brew and diluting it to 1 1/4 cup. No idea why I chose that ratio.

If you like it stronger, you can adjust the ratio.

I usually “brew” my coffee at least overnight. I’ve also tried 24 hours, but sometimes that doesn’t taste as good. I’d bet the time to brew varies by type of coffee, but I’m way too lazy to figure that out. I just went from overnight or so to 24 hours and back to overnight or so.

I hate it when that happens!

I met a guy down in Portland a few years ago who was showing us photos of his gun cellar. A custom room in his basement with what looked like a couple hundred rifles and handguns, mostly antiques. No idea what those cost, but I’m assuming it was massive. I don’t know if it was bigger than my garage, but it was definitely bigger than my kitchen.

this looks like a good thread to ask for reviews on a good brand of Decaf Instant Coffee? The first one I bought was just grab n go because it was for camping. It’s yucky from Walmart  Would love some recommends as I am totally off caffeine now, but love a hot cup of decaf instant in the a.m.'s.

(Robin) #47

Do you have a Krogers or Dillons? I like theirs.

(Stickin' with mammoth) #48

Yeah, Kroger’s is a bit like French Roast to my taste buds. After you add the cream and drops of vanilla extract, you’re pretty much there.

Twins. I brew it cold, microwave it after mixing it about halfsies with water, sometimes enjoy it stronger (admit to slugging it back in full concentrate form for a “shot” occasionally), and steep it between 12 and 24 hours.

Stop copying off my paper, Bob!

Not closeby Robin. There is one in Brookings, and I do need to go up to get my gas a buck cheaper in Oregon. I think something other than a store-brand might be good as I want the best quality I can afford. My coffee-drinking is only 2 cups a day, sometimes only one, so It’s more like a treat  Peets coffee is available in my town, but not sure they are that good. One lady here raves about it, but I realize I won’t know til I try it.

I will try the krogers if Fred Meyer has it, and it should  By the way, I like my coffee strong, you know, the type where the spoon will stand up in it

(Denise) #52

I really love some of the other Kroger brands I can get. In fact, come to think of it, I love the Hills Bacon I can get up at Freddies in Brookings, thanks for the heads up Robin

Are you in North Cal? That’s gorgeous country.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #54

Back in the days when I tolerated instant coffee, Taster’s Choice (Nestlé) was about the best brand out there, especially for decaffeinated. Other brands all seemed to have an “off” taste to them. There may be specialty brands out there, however, and in any case, it was years ago.

But for great taste, nothing beats brewed decaf. One coffee supplier near where I used to live did a blend of 14 oz. (398 g) of Colombian decaf beans to 2 oz. (57 g) of dark French roast. They started out by blending it by hand for each purchase, but it became so popular that they began mixing it in 50 lb. (23 kg) bags, and sold it either as beans or pre-ground. It was so flavourful that dinner guests never realised we were serving them decaf, unless we told them.

(Denise) #55

yes, true North, 23 miles from the Oregon border  It is beautiful and we are bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the Redwoods. I’ve been in lots of American States and it is all, so beautiful :heart::heart:

(Stickin' with mammoth) #56

I maintain that there is no better stretch of the American Pacific Coast than from Cannon Beach down to Trinidad, but then I’m biased. I’m actually heading to the coast today, got a reprieve in the weather before the deluge hits again. Us Oregonians take our winter sun days very seriously!

You know, cold brew keeps in the fridge for a long time. You could whip up a small batch of decaf French Roast (or whatever floats your boat) cold brew, store it in a glass container, and dole out treats as you like.

Oregon’s my Home-State and I’ve been here for 6 years now and I still want to move back. It’s just been a difficult decision to make because traveling is hard, and I am not sure it would be best for my anxiety, uprooting and the whole “moving” thing. I do miss the hot, Summer, nights, and the snow in Winter, all 4 seasons about Winston Oregon where I was raised.

The coffee idea sounds good, brew it ahead of time, but I think I’m spoiled on the ease of instant  Still have my good coffee-maker though.

(Stickin' with mammoth) #58

Cold brew is making your own instant coffee, just sayin’. My morning coffee ritual is 4 minutes, from grabbing the cup out of the cupboard to taking my first hot sip. And it’s about a tenth of the price per cup.

(BuckRimfire) #59

This.

When I first moved to Seattle from San Francisco, back before Peet’s became a national brand, I was totally spoiled by being able to walk into a Peet’s store and get a cup of FRESHLY brewed drip coffee made from beans that were really distinctive from variety to variety (some perhaps to a fault, like their Aged Cameroon which was truly weird tasting, but at least it was interesting).

I was very much underwhelmed by any of the coffee one could buy in Seattle. It was either bland or bad. My conclusion was that everyone here drank “coffee” in the form of cafe lattes, in which you can’t really taste the coffee buried under all the milk.

(Denise) #60

oh geez, I misunderstood what “cold brew” means, LOL! Ok, now it is sounding very good to me!!
Did you tell me your decaf brand yet? If not would you? ty much!!
