Points to ponder
This may be the best topic heading for my pondering.
I found keto in 2017 then lost it during the pandemic.
After recently seeing a functional medicine woman, it became clear that I need to search for keto again.
Looking for my old friends doing a GTS search, I found none until I went deep into the search and then only two familiars came up: diet doctor and ruled.me.
I decided to listen again to the 2 keto dudes’ pod casts (my god do I miss those guys) and it feels like a home coming.
I searched for some of the guests on the pod casts and they too seem to have taken to the shadows.
I rejoined this forum, which I am not entirely format familiar and after blowing off of the dust from some of the posts and threads, it’s helpful but seems a bit abandoned.
The 2 dudes podcasts are getting me through my initial keto adaptation but what is there for community maintenance and connection?
Ketofest is but a distant memory.
What am I missing about where everyone has gone?
I am staying calm and ketoing on, regardless…
Hi and welcome back.
I came along to keto and this forum after you had dropped off.
There are many long time members who still visit the forum. But it’s common for folks to find their groove and visit less often.
While you may not see some of the folks you knew well back then, there is still a vibrant community in regular communion.
Glad you’re here. Anxious to hear more.
When I first did keto, I didn’t fully believe that one could loose weight and feel good but I figured I had tried everything else, so why not try bacon.
As the benefits of keto slowly bloomed throughout my experience, I was blown away!
I felt like my mind, body, emotions and my groundedness was like living in a zen reality. Truly life changing. Weight loss was just a bonus.
Now that I am starting again, I am second guessing myself, waiting and wondering where is that zen vibe. Am fat adapted, am I under 20 carbs and so on…yet I didn’t think about anything before with tons of results.
The first time round it was like surprise after surprise. I trusted the process.
Now I’m playing a mental game of wait watch and see…
Almost like there had to be some other explanation for my first go at keto.
Having a place to chat (far as I can tell…ketovanglist coaches are no more. I had an AMAZING coach, Jessica), I know will help/support my process.
I don’t need fixes or hand holding…just a keto place to call home…
Thank you for your prompt reply @robintemplin🙂
Ok, no hand holding or solutions…. I CAN do that!
Share away.
You got this.
I’ve been a part of this forum for a bit over 2 years. Robin is right - because I found my groove after a few months I didn’t need it as much so forgot to check in. During that hiatus I was a part of a few other Keto social groups on Reddit and on Discord and that led to some extreme toxicity in the formats they are in. I didn’t feel that was a good thing to have when people are dealing with difficult life changes already. Competitiveness and arrogance have no place in helping one another. I ended up breaking off from those, but created my own cozy Discord group for just a handful of other Keto friends who also broke off so we can collect fabulous science studies, videos, books, and foods/recipes (I have it incredibly organized and catalogued to easily find things again,) but my server is primarily for information storing/sharing. More like a library for us to quietly visit and contribute to. We don’t necessarily need the constant non-stop interaction so I think that’s why it works. Sometimes we pipe up and chat but it’s not the main focus. I keep it small so that it remains meaningful. But … I also remembered how much this forum helped me my first year, and I just had to come back and did so this year, more to give back since it gave so much to me.
The format here is perfect for me. It too is sort of like visiting a library for info, but we aren’t forced to be silent. Lol We don’t need to be constantly chatting like on Reddit or sites like that, but there is help here when you want it. We get a response usually the same day we post. People are eager to help and even do a bit of research for you or share their past expertise. At the end of the day that’s what is meaningful and really matters, that people check in and remain available as resources. And when we want to celebrate a moment that made us happy we can come here and post and have others share in our joy. There’s always someone around. There’s camaraderie here but it doesn’t have to be nonstop daily, 24/7, 7 days/wk. I just didn’t need that much socializing anymore and oddly I’ve seen how too much socializing can actually hurt a community more than help. This forum feels like a roomful of adults while the others I’ve been involved with felt like a roomful of rowdy, self-absorbed teens.
I hope you stick around! Welcome back
Thanks @Just_Juju.
Makes sense.
Also part of my post has to do with thinking I could check in with some of the keto pioneers in my homecoming thinking that I would get caught up on 7 years of “science” etc and see their latest but online profiles have gone dark, it seems to me (ie like the guests on the 2 dudes podcasts).
So I’m doing what I know worked for me in 2017 and part of that was connecting with community; my mind on its on can be a scary place and talk me into some real doozies.
Thanks and it’s good to be back and living keto.
My fav is the 1st one. Thankfully my fat cells are saved but I still wish some of them would bugger off!
Still, " Marcus Tullius Cicero (106–43 BCE) is best known to posterity as a prominent statesman and orator in the tumultuous period of the late Roman republic . As well as being a leading political actor of his time, he also wrote voluminously."
What, Cicero, are your Likes down?
