Sorry for the essay, respect if u take time to help me.
Hi I am starting keto but I am very poor rn, i find it very hard to buy enough food and i go through periods of starvation followed by periods of high calorie intake. This has led to me going from 59kg on 20/10/17 to now being 96kg. I look gross and have gotten stretch marks and need to lose weight as the effect on my mental health is dangerous. I battle with multiple affective disorders which does not help. I stopped going out and i got fired due to this as i cannot be seen like this. I am usually very active and in to sports so being fat is weird to me.
I need help with eating because i am scared i will hurt my metabolism on keto by undereating and struggle to lose weight, i cannot find affordable fatty meats to bump up my fat intake, england is obsessed with 5% to 20% beef or low fat meat. People say eggs but they are expensive at only 5 grams of fat per egg. Can anyone help me with what to eat in a week, that is cheap and will give me my macro, i do not care if it is the same 3 meals every day as i am stubborn as fuck and will not give in, i am not fat due to lazyness but due to anxiety and depression, i will go out and run early when there are few people out and i will have no cheat days.
Macro said i need 1663 calories, 129g fat 20g carbs
106g protein. If you are worried i can not stick to repetitive meals please donât, i am fat due to sedentary lifestyle due to mental health and a diet that kills metabolism by over and under eating at different times, i am not addicted to bad food, i eat fast as it bores me and i donât enjoy food, i just want to eat clean, exercise lots and lose weight as rapid as possible then i can get back to my old life and stop feeling sorry for myself and hiding behind anxiety/depression.
(If u think my macro is wrong im retarded at stuff like this so maybe this helps, i am 21, 172cm 96kg will be active and want to lose weight as fast as possible.)
Sorry this is so direct not written in the friendliest manner. Tayo
Please help me new to keto
When Iâm feeling lazy I eat bacon and eggs. I fry my bacon and then cook the eggs in bacon fat. I also eat a lot chicken thighs⌠They go on sale a lot for super cheap. If I need more fat I add butter. I also roast a pork shoulder in the Crock-Pot and shed it. I do throw steak into my mix but that is obviously more costly than the above options.
Good luck!
I forgot to say i do not have an oven only 2 electric convection portable hobs.
Also i use bacon but four pieces is only 20 calories, the max i can afford is 4 slices a day when buying in bulk to reduce cost, i would go on a different diet but keto seems the fastest way to lose weight, i am trapped because if i return to work i could afford it easily but if i go back i think i will be suicidal again because i care too much about what people think and feel like people are looking/talking about my weight. I will have ti find a way to do it on a budget.
Hi Tayo, sorry to hear youâre feeling so bad. Maybe these few suggestions can help.
All the UK supermarkets sell boxes of 15 mixed weight eggs for around ÂŁ2. Look for the cooking bacon near the âvalue rangesâ - itâs around 65p for a large pack. Buy chicken thighs and ground beef. Bag of frozen green veg - shop own brand. Lard or beef tallow to cook meat and veg. Water is free from the tap - or bottles of still or sparkling around 20p. Go shopping near end of the day when food is reduced. If you eat fish tinned sardines are cheap is you buy shopsâ own brands.
Thanks, everything you said is great other than the chicken thighs, i am sure i am missing something but is it possible to cook them without an oven only a hob top?
Also it is hard for me to find deals because i get food delivered, i have not left my home since january this year because my anxiety took a bad turn especially with weight gain, i have the driver leave it in a safe space which with perishables is not usually allowed but ocado agreed to do this because of the severity of my health situation. The best deal i get is the fact they pricematch so at least i wont have to pay more than any other supermarket. I will search for cooking bacon i only knew of the slice packet bacon so hopefully this will help. Thanks for your time, i appreciate it a lot.
If by pieces of bacon you mean slices, four slices of bacon has about 170 calories, not 20. So yeah, it would still be pretty expensive to eat 40 slices of bacon a day to hit your macros, but four is a good start.
I am hoping you can boost your self esteem and get back to being part of society and that keto helps you do that, but are you getting other kinds of help? Mental and emotional issues are just as serious as the physical issues youâre dealing with, I hope you can find some support here and elsewhere.
All those foods can be cooked on a hob. You can even do pot roasts. You just need a lids or foil.
Often buying a bigger joint is more economical as there is enough meat for a few meals.
Iâve never used Ocado as it always seems more expensive than other places but all the big supermarkets do home deliveries, so shop around online a bit more for bargains. You can give them special instructions for the drivers. Also they usually do discounts for first orders, so you could try a few of them and save quite a bit of money.
I will be getting help soon, sorry i meant 20g of fat not calories, im trying to hit 130g of fat daily which is hard to do cheaply. Thanks for your response.
Thanks i will try your advice, i just need to watch so videos on bulk cooking so i can save some money.
I did some research, and in my area/country the best bargains for protein are eggs and canned pink salmon. (I know salmon is considered expensive, but I guess itâs worth it.) Both are also fairly high in fat.
Tuna is actually cheaper than salmon, but I donât eat it because of concerns about mercury; also, tuna is low fat and youâd have to add fat, e.g., mayonnaise. Canned mackerel can be cheap too, but some people donât like it (too fishy); itâs okay with plenty of mayo and/or hot sauce. Or get the canned mackerel in tomato sauce and heat it up with curry seasonings. I make this often and itâs pretty good!
Cheese is a good source of protein and fat; some brands are cheaper than others. Just make sure itâs real cheese and not process cheese or âcheese food.â
You can also buy fatty meats (e.g., beef or pork roasts or chops) when theyâre on sale. Ground beef or pork can be cheap.
For fat I buy coconut oil (a large container) for frying; olive oil for salads, etc. (do not cook with it); butter; and olive oil mayonnaise. As someone mentioned, you can use bacon drippings for fryingâespecially for frying eggs.
âOlive oil mayonnaiseâ also has canola oil, so the name is a bit misleading. The squeeze bottle of mayo is handy for squirting on many things. Or you might just want to buy a big jar of cheap mayo. Make sure itâs real mayonnaise, not âspreadâ or Miracle Whip, which are full of sugar.
Iâm not in the UK, but I hope some of this is helpful.
From what I have seen âŚrepeating a menu is the best bang for buck if you are on a budget.
Egg roll in a bowl is probably the BEST thing every⌠as it will give you a meal and leftovers that will work for a week of lunches
Fat adapt and you will notice your hunger decrease which will require less foodâŚ
Pork belly is good and cheap. You can cook a load in one go (on the hob in a frying pan is ok, but have a lid as it will splatter everywhere!), and have hot or cold chopped up with salad, or eggs and mayo for lunch.
Also try finding a local butcher. The fattier cuts are often cheaper as they are less popular. If you can get things like lamb belly, or beef skirt, they are cheap and you can chop them and put them in a pan on the hob with some spices and a bit of water to make a stew. If you leave them on a low heat for ages then you can shred it. Very tasty and nutritious.
A butcher shop, or perhaps even a supermarketâs butcher, might be willing to part with fat scraps for a very low price or even for free.
Also if thereâs an Aldi in your area, they seem to be cheaper than Waitrose or Tesco, or what have you.
Good luck, and stay in touch. It would be nice to know how you are getting on.
I just cooked chicken wings in bacon fat on my stovetop in an old fashioned pressure cooker. I always save my bacon drippings in a jar (I filter it through a cheese cloth, but any fabric that isnât too linty is fine.) I also donât have an oven currently. Maybe you can find a used pressure cooker online? I also cook chicken in a frying pan. When I get stuck how to do something I look up how to cook âsomethingâ on stovetop. I even made egg loaf on a stovetop. Get creative!
Many people find their anxiety and depression are relieved on keto even before significant weight loss. Itâs obviously complex, so Iâm not saying it will be the same for you. But I hope it is!
Thanks, i hope so to, it will certainly help my self esteem and give me something to focus on. However i am struggling with the food, i notice 100grams if chicken wings has 15 grams of fat i can get 1kg for ÂŁ2.25 but the macro calculator says i need 129 grams a day, this us why i am struggling becauss i cant afford to buy enough meat for every day to get the fat up. I need to find something really high in fat but also very cheap.
I am going to look online today and ring around a few butchers hopefully i can sort something out and i will definately keep in touch, thanks for your help it means a lot.
Thanks this is very helpfull as a lot of this stuff i have not heard of so i will ask about them when i speak to the butchers, great ideas.
If you have coconut oil and cream cheese ⌠mix them one part to one part, throw in a little sweetener (I use Torani SF syrups) ⌠itâs a good way to hit your fat macros without meat
I forgot to add that, although the first couple of weeks feel ruinous to the food budget, oneâs appetite generally starts to come down fairly soon, because fat and protein are highly satiating, and once insulin comes down, the leptin signaling from your adipose tissue can get through to your brain again and let it know that there is plenty of energy stored on board. If you can just get over that initial hump, you are likely to find your food expense coming down, because the decrease in quantity will more than compensate for the cost of any increase in quality.
