Pizzas must shrink or lose their toppings under Government anti-obesity plan

Will the government never learn they got it all wrong?

Dr Alison Tedstone, PHE chief nutritionist, said the threat to children’s health had been ā€œdecades in the makingā€

Yeah, ever since they started pushing low cal / low fat.
It’s a pretty scary though when she then says that calories in all foods need to be reduced.

Shrink the size of the crust to zero and you’re off to a great start.

I hate the fact that governments (of all persuasions oddly) just end up regulating or lives to the last degree. I’d just like the freedom to choose to do what I like with what I’ve worked for instead of them deciding ā€˜what is best’ through taxation and regulation.

And that’s why I’m brave enough to self identify as a Libertarian… or as some say batshit crazy nutbags :grinning:

They should also tell drug addicts to do a little less so they don’t OD, OR they could put signs on the streets telling people how fast to go so they don’t hurt people and then… oh ya right… REALITY!

It seriously makes me feel better that the British government is as stupid as the US with this crap, because if it was just us it would be more embarrassing. Reminds me of that crap they tried years ago in the Peoples Republic of New York with soda.

Simple answer: no.

Gary Taubes’ work at NUSI is really about trying to demonstrate that the whole of metabolism doesn’t come down to calories. A calorie is not a calorie, contrary to what the experts say. It is frightfully hard to do in a way that will convince anyone. Most of the world thinks they know the answer and don’t care about those uncomfortable details.

These people honestly believe that they can make a pizza smaller and people will just eat less, instead of compensating for it by eating more elsewhere. Which has been shown in study after study.

I use a small ā€œLā€. Capital L means the formal party, which is pretty useless around here. Lowercase l means the simple philosophy of live and let live.

hmmmmm, never seen that before. Interesting.

I probably got it from someone’s blog or something, IIRC. Someone made a big deal about being a ā€œsmall ā€œLā€ libertarianā€.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #10

Nah, folks’ll just eat more! Mayor Bloomberg tried limiting the size of sodas in New York, and people just bought two of the (smaller) maximum.

True dat, I would ā€œtreatā€ myself to a pizza once a month but every other day would only have 1200-1400 calories of ā€œhealthyā€ foods and just got fatter. Really hope everyone will wake up soon to low fat doesn’t work.
