They actually work really well. The bacon grease is pretty pure without browned bits and pieces in it. Easy to pour the grease off into a jar. The one I have is short (it was also cheap in comparison to many of the others), so my bacon ends are wading in the bacon grease. But it is pretty much no mess just covered with a paper towel to keep the spatters at bay.

I have one! I bought it Gatlinberg, Tn last year. I love it because its so easy to pour off (and save) the fat. Great little tool.
