Perimenopause

Has anyone experienced the return of their cycle? I’m 54 and was 5 months in. I’ve lost 22 lbs and just started my 7th week of keto when I started spotting. Definitely not the heavy flooding I had 5 months ago. I had only been getting my period ever 3-5 months for almost a year. It’s slowed down and thought I was going to be done. I also have PCOS.

There’s so much online ranging from this is normal and stick it out to low-carb is terrible. The past week I had lowered my carbs and thinking I should raise them back up a little. I was either too busy to eat or just not hungry from drinking so much water. I don’t exercise a ton. Mostly pleasure walking or walking videos at home. I feel amazing otherwise!

I have not had this experience, but I’d be careful if I were you. Late-in-life babies.

This is how I understand it. Your ovaries and your fat both manufacture estrogen. A rise in estrogen causes you to ovulate. This is why PCOS patients have so many eggs lining the surface of their ovaries. They have ovulated but the egg doesn’t complete its cycle and remains trapped on the edge due to an incorrect proportion of estrogen/testosterone/progesterone. A big drop in estrogen signals the uterus to shed its lining. When you burn a lot of fat, you have a similar drop in estrogen - the estrogen that was in the fat. This is telling your uterus to shed the lining, although you may not be ovulating.

This explains some women (including me) having 2 periods a month in the beginning of our keto journey. One period is typical and the other is due to fat loss.

I’ve heard of it, so your not a unicorn, but not experienced myself as I haven’t hit menopause yet.
Though I did skip a couple months in the beginning. Best 2 months of my Keto journey.

Yes. For 3 weeks. Ugh!

I heard that too. No thanks! Lol.

I’m the opposite. I was already at 5 months without. Not it’s back. Ugh.

At least it went away. I’m at 10 days of spotting now. Hopefully this steaightens out.
