Peanuts and seeds. Yes or no?

I love peanuts, especially after a workout.
I know that they have decent fat and decent protein. I also am aware that the carb value may be high if you eat to much of them; I eat 170 grams (quite a lot, clearly out of keto).
But I also get not so perfect digestion from them…
Are peanuts overall good or should I exclude them and find other sources of fat and protein ?cially after a workout.

after so many experimentation I decided to exclude them from my diet.

too carby that I ended up adding 5 kilo of extra weight most of it in my billy.

i’d highly recommend pecans or macadamia nuts over peanuts. processed better by the body, higher in fat, and lower in carbs :ok_hand:

(Scott) #4

Three words, only tree nuts.

(Alex) #5

^^^ this man KNOWS. almonds are another one of my favorites i forgot to mention initially

#6

I use sunflower and pumpkin seeds occasionally. Also pecans and almonds.

#7

Don’t go crazy with them. Use them as a treat, limit portions of all nuts

Our keto dietician’s comment to seeds - “if youre a bird, go nuts” :joy:

I avoid flax and chia due to phytoestrogens…studies are 50-50, I dont know what to trust, so I dont eat them

once I start, I can’t stop, on that basis - they need to stay out of my diet…

No for me these days. If that’s all there is and I’m desperate then yes. Same with seeds, I just overeat them.

Peanuts are high in PUFAs:

While I avoid PUFAs as much as possible, if we go to 5 Guys (a burger place with peanuts in the shell), I will eat some peanuts. But since I go there about once a month, and I assiduously avoid PUFAs in the interim, I don’t think it’s that bad.

Been there. Done that. Over and over.

I include them occasionally at this point. But I have to buy just a small amount from the bulk foods section, or a single serving pack. That’s how I keep it under control.

Yup, same…they bring out all those snacking issues I managed to get rid of :woman_facepalming:

I see most people also have apetite problems with peanuts…

(Jenn) #15

I eat about a half a cup of macadamia nuts or pecans most days throughout the week. Haven’t noticed it causing issues but I also only put the portion I’m going to eat in a bowl or baggy and don’t sit with the whole container

I gave up peanuts awhile ago even though I love them. I hope you have some luck finding an alternative or option that works for you!

My husband is very allergic to tree nuts unfortunately.
But I am not fortunately!
I love pecans, cashews and walnuts most. He has peanuts due to his allergy. We eat it in moderation. I have nuts maybe once or twice a week, a small handful. It’s mostly for taste and to break up my otherwise extremely boring meals. There was a phase where I did overeat nuts and seeds (we were crazy about sunflower seeds) but unless we are on the go (road trips) I really avoid them. Nuts and seeds are super tasty to start and then it’s afterwards where we feel the most effects. I feel it a lot quicker than he does and dislike it. It’s a nice treat though!

You may not like to hear this, but peanuts and seeds cause inflammation, heart problems and weight gain.

Award-winning cardiologist, surgeon, and author Dr. Steven Gundry talks about this and is the leading expert on Lectins that are found in a lot of plant based food.

This video from Brian Jonson is good. He also has a lot of other good videos on keto and paleo and diet.

This isn’t great, but Grundy explains it in laymans terms.
