Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster

(John Cotter) #1

Hey all,

My 42nd birthday party is happening on Saturday and I’m looking to try and make a “keto” version of a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. Most recipes I’ve found as a starting point use a lot of sugar, just wondering if anyone has some good recommendations for replacements or if they have their own PGGB recipe they would share. I’m going to try some experiments to see what I can come up with.

I checked out the recipe. This seems like a question similar to, “I’d like to make ice at room temperature…AND not use any water.” Seems impossible to me. Even if you could remotely keto-ify yet (by erythritoling this and stevia-ing that), be sure your guests know where the bathroom is.

I found a larger list on a fan wiki https://en.m.wikibooks.org/wiki/Bartending/Cocktails/Pan_Galactic_Gargle_Blaster

The one that stands out there is this one, which I’m going to use as my base to start working with:

Into a 12 oz glass

  • drop two - three large ice cubes
  • sprinkle a pinch or two of cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp powdered vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp lemon extract

Add

  • 1/2 shot 151 Proof Cruzan Rum (Bacardi will not turn out well)
  • 1/2 shot 80 Proof Gold Rum
  • 3/4 shot Tequila
  • 1 shot Sapphire Gin
  • 1 shot green Creme de Menthe

TOP w/ Sprite (or fizzy lemonade)

Stir exactly twice from top to bottom!

Add an olive

For a nice touch add 8 1/2" frozen gin cubes (4:1 water:gin)

That seems more workable than the first link you posted. You’ll probably have to ditch the Creme de Menthe (maybe go with a crushed mint leaf instead?) I think and swap the Sprite for lemon/lime club soda and you’ll be there.

That’s exactly what I was thinking! Going to test run it tomorrow night.

  • 1 tablespoon gin

  • 1 tablespoon light rum

  • 1 tablespoon vodka

  • 1 tablespoon tequila

  • 2 tablespoons creme de menthe liqueur

  • 2 tablespoons Galliano

  • 1 cup ice cubes

  • 1 slice of lemon

Actually the first four ingredients are good, double them up and put in a few drops of peppermint extract, a drop of vanilla extract and a sprig of mint! Finish with ice and lemon!
Sounds pretty good to me!
