Oysters?

I swear - I DID do a search on the forums to get the information I wanted. But honestly, I felt like I was seeing conflicting facts.

We spend our summer on the Mississippi Gulf Coast - not far outside of New Orleans. To say that I love oysters would be a serious understatement. Raw - charbroiled - grilled…

Exactly how careful do I need to be this summer? I really hate the thought of having to deny myself in this particular area…

My wife and I like them too, Susan. Around 20 grams of carbohydrates in a dozen medium-sized ones, apparently. (I don’t worry about it…)

Ugh…that makes me a little sad I think. Seems like a lot.

I guess that on days when I indulge, it will need to be my mission to keep the rest of my intake as close to ZERO carbs as possible! Sharing 2 dozen oysters is nothing for me and my husband!

And to think, 5 years ago I thought I HATED oysters! Nothing like time spent in NoLa to educate the old taste buds.

Thanks for the reply, Doug.

PS: My husband’s name is Doug, so every time I see your screen name of “Old Doug” it makes me smile!!

Limiting carbs to 20 grams is suggested because it allows most people even those with major insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes to get into ketosis. Some do fine with regular cheat days. Others do fine with a higher daily limit. Some find they do better restricting lower. 20 g is a good starting point and then experimenting to find out what works for you and what interferes with your goals is encouraged.
