Opinion/Suggestion For Your Favorite Artificial Sweetener?

This is my second go round on Keto. This time around my husband also decided to join me. He only has about a total of 30lbs to lose while I have slightly over 100 to go.

Anyway, I could care less about sweets/cheats/etc. myself, just never crave any of it, but every now and then he wants something sweet. And rather than him going off plan and cheating, I’d prefer to make him something Keto friendly/ok.

As of right now, I have been using Xylitol in the few things that I’ve already made him. But we are both pretty afraid to continue using it due to it’s dangers around dogs (and we have a dog).

Is there something else you suggest/like/prefer specifically for baking/Keto ice creams/etc. that would be safe around the dog? Not that we would intentionally feed the dog anything, BUT, we’d just feel better not having to worry about accidental ingestion. Especially since we have small grand kids in the house too who are constantly feeding the dog.

I’d also prefer something that isn’t known for causing slight stomach/digestion issues as he has had that experience a few times already from the Xylitol. Thanks in advance!!!

I personally prefer the taste of a combo of 2 parts xylitol, 1 part erythritol and 1 part stevia or monk fruit. But if you’re trying to avoid xylitol, I’d go with erythritol.

I use several sweeteners (by themselves) depending on the food or beverage, but in general erythritol is my go-to.

I use 3 different kinds depending on what I’m using it for. I use liquid stevia for my coffee or tea, and I use powdered Swerve and/or Erythritol for baking. Pumpkin cheesecake bites are my favorite go-to and super easy to make.

Going on 8 weeks now on keto and 100% committed, with no cheat days so far, I can say there are some things I can not do without. I can not do black coffee or straight tea’s. For this, I bought $200 of natural sweeteners and this is what I found that works for me. xylitol is my go to, as it is the closest tasting to real sugar. All you have to do, is go through the adjustment period (just like the keto flu) and then your stomach will be fine. Erythritol I did not like, as it has a slight menthol after taste. and I find that stevia is sort of the same. Swerve is good, but is more like powder sugar. Good for baking and cooking. Coconut brown sugar is also a go to specially for making treats and baking. It does not actually taste like brown sugar, as it has it own kinda taste(not bad, but can’t explain), but acts just like brown sugar. Then you have Flour! Almond flour is our go to and Coconut flour is for certain things, as you will give what ever your cooking a slight coconut flavor. Hope this helps!

Instead of hot black coffee in the morning, after the first meal of the day I have a large stainless mug of iced coffee with 1/4 cup of whipping cream and 1 teaspoon of liquid stevia from amazon. It’s the only thing I sweeten. I’ve been meaning to ask the more experienced hands here if there is an even less expensive sweetner for this.

I use Sucradrops, which is sucralose in liquid drops. Amazon carries it. 1 drop is the equivalent to 1 teaspoon of sugar. This has been my go whenever I need something sweetened.

I love Swerve both in granulated and confectioners form but for me it makes water have a strange aftertaste.
