Only on 1 lot of BP meds now

(Ellen) #1

Had my BP done today after a 6 week trial period of dropping one of my meds, 132/82 so all fine, so am officially only on 1 lot now, just gotta KCKO and see if can reduce / eliminate them as well.
Tempted to call the Dr that was so resistant to me trying to give her a two finger salute, when I discussed it with her she didn’t want me to try as BP meds are for life, but if I really wanted to I could try for 6 weeks, but WHEN my BP was high after that I was going to have go back on it and stay on it.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #2

Your chances of no longer needing blood pressure medication are good.

I moved last year and had to find a new doctor. As part of the getting-acquainted physical, they ran a battery of tests and took vital signs. For the first time in a long time, my blood pressure and heart rate were completely normal—117/70 and 72, respectively—after years of being high. By contrast, I had my vitals taken frequently while recovering from some bad injuries a couple of years ago—before I started eating keto—my BP never got below 128/80, and my heart rate was never lower than 90 bpm.

Elle, are you also taking Magnesium supplements? If not, you might want to read Dr. Carolyn Dean’s book, Magnesium Miracle. Deficiency in Magnesium is the #1 cause of high BP. Or you can take my word for it and get some Magnesium by Doctor’s Best, the High Absorption kind and take a dose in the a.m. and dose in the p.m. I followed this, and got off ALL my BP meds. That Metoprolol was awful stuff, with its 5 side effects. It took 2 months of taking Magnesium but well worth it. My Phy’s aid, a Nurse Practitioner, also tried to chastise me about ‘these BP drugs are for LIFE!’ Pfffft.
caution: the serum Magnesium blood test the Dr does is worthless. It only measures Magnesium in the serum, which contains only 1% of the body’s Magnesium. It’ll pretty much always show normal, even though you may be severely deficient like I was.

This must be a great feeling. Congratulations.

Way to go Paul, that’s good going.

(Ellen) #6

The only Magnesium I have is in my daily vit supplement, I’ll look into that book thanks.

(Ellen) #7

Yep, pretty chuffed Andy

Check your Multi for what KIND of magnesium. It’s probably Mg OXIDE, which is only 4% absorbed; it’s the super cheap Magnesium, that’s why they use it. So it’s close to useless for Mg supplementation. Get the kind I suggested or ReMag, and then after 2 months, throw your dr drugs away!

Cheers Davy, I’ll check it & the book out on amazon.

When you do, within a month, you’ll be running around like a spring chicken.

(Ellen) #11

Got the book on wish list and waiting for pills to arrive, not sure I ever ran around like a spring chicken, but could be a nice new experiance

(Davy) #12

Wonderul! Which pills did you get? There’s a proper way to take them, via the book. I took them incorrectly at first; then learned. Your high BP could soon be a thing of the past, like mine.

(Ellen) #13

The Dr’s best ones, should arrive this week, how should you take?

(Davy) #14

Great, I was hoping you got those. I still take mine religiously every day.
Take in 3 shots. 2 tablets after your morning meal, another 2 after your midday meal, and 2 more after your last meal. That’ll be about 600mg which is a super start. I took up to 800mg per day at one time.
Some people take 500-600mg at one time and they get loose stools; and then think “whoa, I’m taking too much!” No, they were just taking too much at one time. If ever, while taking 3x a day, you get loose stool the next morning, THEN you know you’ve reached your saturation point and can back off. It probably won’t happen though. So that’s it, 3 times a day, AFTER a meal. Let us know how it goes, especially a couple of months from now.
Oh, one more thing. If at any point, your BP get too low, like 100/60, then also back off…that’s another sign you’ve reached saturation point, and also a sign you could start backing off on the meds. 110/70 is just about perfect. That’s where mine hangs around these days. One year ago I would not have believed I’d be at those numbers.

I OMAD, are they ok to take on empty stomach?

(Davy) #16

I’ve heard it can go both ways. Our Dr’s Best is mostly Magnesium Glycinate and it says on the label to take with food. Can you just eat a half of avocado or some fat food like bacon just before taking it?
About the only side effect taking it without food, is 1) you may just pass it right through with a loose stool. No problem there, you just won’t be getting as much Mg as you need. In case that happens, just try taking 1 pill in the a.m. without food, and the same way at night, then take 4 of the pills after your OMAD or 2) it may cause some people upset stomach. Depends on the person.
