Omega-3 chicken

I was just watching the Dr. Oz show. There was a segment about new omega-3 chicken in our supermarkets.
They feed the chickens wheat, flax seeds, and peas. Instead of corn and soy. There is 1.3g of omega-3 per serving. Pretty close to salmon.
What are your thoughts🤔

I’m not a fan of corn and soy so anything that moves away from that in a healthy way I’m looking at as a positive thing.

I’ve not seen anything labeled “Omega-3 Chicken” yet. It’ll probably be along shortly, especially if they can charge a significantly higher price for it. Maybe it’ll be touted as “Organic 2.0” or something similar. I’m a little skeptical but maybe it’s a step in the right direction. I still prefer local stuff when I can get it.

I don’t eat as much chicken as I used to and am finding that I like beef better. (It used to be the opposite.) But I do eat a lot of eggs so local pasture raised are highly desirable here. Those chickens are out eating all kinds of stuff I don’t know how you’d ever put into a sack of feed… bugs, worms, slugs, snails, snakes, small rodents, weeds n seeds, and even a few small rocks. (I probably missed some things.) But there is no label on those eggs to tell me how rich they are in anything. Yolk color is a lot brighter / more orange, though.

They are always coming out with new things… it should be interesting to see if it takes off.

Chickens that free range, eat bugs and what not, I believe have decent omega-3 profiles. Real pastured chickens, not 8 sq ft pastured chickens.

But, at the end of the day, 100+ years ago, people kept chickens for the eggs, not for the meat. Eating the meat as the most common meat has coincided with the low fat craze, the increasing sickness, and the move away from red meats. I already eat more chicken that I would like to, mostly because there’s always a sale, or there is always a price advantage to the dark meat.
