Old School Keto

Just heard about an old (50’s-60’s) body building diet championed by Vince Giranda, the trainer for the very first Mr. Olympia.

The diet was 25p, 4c, 71f by percent. What makes it a body building diet is the specifics: 2 lbs meat, 1qt whole milk, 1qt heavy cream, and 36 eggs, nearly 8k calories… You were supposed to work up to it. This was for big dudes looking to get bigger.

Another method for squat training involved drinking a gallon of whole milk a day.

Lyle McDonald’s “The Ketogenic Diet” of nearly 20 years ago was similar, with the 60/35/5% Evolutionary Macro, a 500 Cal per day deficit, and a 36 hr weekly glycogen recompensation. The recompensation prevented the Starvation Response in people who were training hard and with little or no metabolic derangement. I used it myself quite a bit, it’s very effective.
