Old fart new to keto

(Denise) #1

I am 60 years young and have been struggling with reactive hypoglycemia my entire life brought on by BAD eating habits. I had my thyroid removed due to cancer and gained 30 pounds in 4 months! I tried every diet out there and could not lose the weight. My husband is also very overweight. We got fed up feeling like crap all the time and after much research decided to do keto. It’s only been 3 weeks but WOW!. I feel like a new person!. No more yoyo glucose. Still having a few periods of tiredness but am truly enjoying this transition. Our goals are to lose weight and become more active. Glad I found this forum. It’s full of wonderful information to this newbie! Our only problem is eating too much protien. So wish us luck and thanks for being here!

Welcome to the forum. You landed in a sweet spot for sure. The folks here are amazing to say the least. And congrats on making the change. You’re never too old to begin something new. And the longer you’re on keto, you’ll notice that your gassy issues will disappear too, so long to old farts!

Thanks Sophie! It’s so exciting to know I don’t have to live on a yoyo diet anymore!

I’m 67 and have also suffered with reactive hypoglycemia most of my life. Carb restriction, which I’ve done off and on for 40 years or so, is the only thing that helps. But keto is the only thing that makes me feel really GOOD!

Well, hello sister. I’m 61 years young, have struggled with RH all my life, and also had my thyroid removed.

Welcome, you’re in a great place!

Welcome! You’re definitely not alone here (and definitely not the oldest!) I just joined the forum yesterday, been on keto for about a week, and am 65. The forum is a great source of information. Good luck on your journey!
