Okay, here we go... 26 hours in ;)

And I’m going for it ! Not going to kill myself… IF I start to have any unbearable effects, stomach pains, weakness, dizziness, etc, I’ll eat. But so far so good.
In fact, I’m not sure if this is normal, but I feel kind of energetic… and… don’t know how to describe this… but like my body is buzzing ?

Already addressed my inevitable caffeine withdrawal by taking a couple caffeine tablets… probably half of what Id get in my daily 22oz mug of double strength coffee, but enough to get me by. Why not coffee you ask ? Because I HATE black coffee, without a nice shot of heavy cream in it.

Now, I have mentioned this before, but don’t remember the general consensus…
What if I get to the point that I have to eat, but instead of having a full actual meal, I pop a couple of fat bombs (for like 100-150 cals) then go the rest of the day without eating anything else ? Will that 100-150 cals negate all possible benefits from a longer fast ? I have to ask, because I already know from experience, that I have had days when I was starting to get pretty darn hungry at 2 or 3pm, so I grabbed a couple fat bombs (my GF has an almost continuous supply of fat bombs  lol) and I was completely good for 4 or 5 more hours until dinner !

You are better avoiding the Fat Bombs as you cannot have the artificial sweeteners during a fast -it will negate it. but you can have Just fat that has no protein or carbs -so you can eat a tablespoon of coconut oil or MCT oil, etc. at times during the fast. No sweeteners, no carbs, no proteins, but pure fat is okay, according to Dr. Fung =).

No artificial sweeteners ??? Hmmmm… Drinking a sugar free Gatorade right now… But Id really have to see some hard core proof of that hurting anything… Like actual blood test results done on myself. Still haven’t gotten around to getting a blood glucose meter, but I know I should.

Now you say pure fat wouldn’t hurt a fast ? That sounds odd too… As I’d think any big shot of calories would mess things up… WAAY more than a little artificial sweetener…
But I could be wrong.
Will continue to look deeper into this stuff.

It has to do with Glucose or stuff, I am no scientist, it just doesn’t count as a real fast if you use sweeteners is all I was told… I am not sure of the science behind it.

It depends on what you mean by “hurt a fast”. If it keeps you fasting longer, it’s probably not a huge detriment. If you want 100% autophagy, you might not get 100% after fat (but it also depends on to whom you listen, many varied viewpoints here).

Okay, lots of different opinions “most especially” concerning artificial sweeteners.
I mean I have heard people say that Splenda caused all sorts of issues, and that it tasted horrible ! And who am i to argue. Maybe for them, it did. I just have not seen any problems with Splenda, or any other artificial sweeteners either… Although I think Splenda tastes the best.

I would think though, that calories of any type, would be detrimental to a fast. Otherwise heck, I could eat 2 or 3 fat bombs every 4 or 5 hours, and not eat anything else for a week :slightly_smiling_face: Those things really satiate me…

Update: 38 hours in, and pretty sure I’m going to be able to do this :slightly_smiling_face: Only about 4 hours until bed time, and once I’m asleep, it should be easy peasy  Then if I have breakfast at 8:30 am, that will be 50 hrs ! Defrosting my Salmon for breakfast tonight  Mmmmmm.

Not the most fun thing I’ve ever attempted though.

But depending on how this all turns out, I might start doing this every Sunday through Tuesday. Then, after eating normally (my new normal) I’m planning a hard core cardio workout Weds and Friday… And I really need to start doing some weightlifting again. Lightly at first, just to get back in the swing, after 5 years off…

I got this

Awesome, that sounds great, Chris. You have done well =).

(Dirty Lazy Keto'er, Sucralose freak ;)) #9

Thank you Susan. We just got out of the pool, and it made me feel so much more comfortable. Smooth sailing now until breakfast :slightly_smiling_face:

(Susan) #10

Awesome, sleep well =).

Chris after keeping my eye on your progress you have inspired me to go ahead with my first real fast. I’ve been doing 18/6 since starting my Keto journey and have been doing lots of reading from others here in fasting. I am going to try a Friday through Sunday fast. Thanks for sharing your progress

Tyler, that’s awesome :slightly_smiling_face: And just to reiterate, people have to understand that this is a completely wild and crazy thing for me, Fish Chris, to be doing a fast !!! Like really !?!? This is almost just unbelievable !
I used to eat a big breakfast (and always had a desert with it, cake, donuts, or whatever) and 4 or 5 hours later, I’d be so hungry, I’d be almost sick ! Honestly, I haven’t been much hungrier during my 50 hour fast ! Now, I can eat my breakfast at say 8am, and then if I’m not careful, it will 8pm and I haven’t eaten yet… Which bugs me, as im trying to eat on the 8:16 plan… So that I’m eating all my food in an 8 hr window, and going 16 without. Hunger wise, that’s easy with Keto… Convenience wise, not so much. But I don’t beat myself up too much on meal timing, as I don’t think this is super critical. Maybe just slightly beneficial when I can make it happen :slightly_smiling_face:

Good luck on your fast ! I think you might be surprised how doable it is.

50hrs ! Bam ! That was easy… Well, I wish I could say that, but not really. Yesterday, I was pretty worthless (well, I kind of always am on Mondays, after my hard core marathon weekend driving, so my GF and I really don’t expect a lot out of me Monday anyway)

So my next concern was, how would my breakfast go down and sit ? And the answer is, no problem whatsoever  I’ve heard a bit of talk about how to ease back in… But I didn’t do that at all. I had nearly my typical breakfast, with a nice slab of Salmon, and 4 eggs (4 yolks, only 1 white) all swimming in butter. And right now, I feel good  Just letting that soak in, and loving my 22oz double strength mug of coffee  Don’t need no stinking caffeine tablets today  lol

Now, the big question is, do I really have it in me, to do this once a week ??? Hmmm. Hitting the gym more often, for 80 minute, 1000 cal burns on the treadmill seems easier… Something to think about anyway.

Oh, and one more thing, I jumped on the scale this morning, and was down to 211.6… My lowest weight in 5 years  Really only trying to average below 210… So maybe 5 more lbs to go… at which point, I plan to keep watching the scale, while incorporating more Keto treats, but NOT CHEATS.

(Susan) #14

Congrats, Chris, well done =).

TY Susan

(Tyler) #16

Way to go Chris!!

I believe the issue with artificial sweeteners (apart from the thing about their being the Devil’s spawn, I mean), is that many people report that one or another of the non-sugar sweeteners appeared to have spiked their insulin. (Not glucose—such sweeteners cannot be sold unless they provide proof of not increasing serum glucose.)

Your body might be perfectly fine with a sweetener that sends someone else’s insulin skyrocketing, and vice versa. Naturally, an insulin spike is going to ruin your fast, so be careful with the sweeteners.
