My first thread is linked here where I asked WTH was going on…?
Starting keto, I got myself a Precision Xtra meter and it came with 200 glucose strips. I also purchased ketone strips.
What had me truly baffled was fasting blood sugar at 105-115 every morning. I mean “dawn phenomena” yeah, but I truly wasn’t convinced that was what was causing my elevated sugar in the AM. I went nearly 8 weeks like that, eating strict Keto with a small deficit, with very little carbs and very little weight loss. My blood sugar would be up to 120+ during the day on days I ate only fat and very low protein and I was freaking out with a self-diagnosis of pre-diabetes.
KCKO right…I was like ya, screw you!
Natalia said this in my last thread:
"Also, if you were a carb addict and now burning fat on your body, you’re probably releasing some of the glucose that insulin trapped in the fat on your body. Many people experience a spike in their blood glucose because all that trapped glucose is being released."
I thought that was some kind of “SIS” Science (lol, see what I did there…?) But I never knew this to be true that the body squirrels away sugar. NOW, I was on a serious SUGAR BENDER right before starting this WOE. I was living on pure refined sugar for three or four months at least. I was to the point that I couldn’t even look at real food. Anyway…
Three weeks ago I ended a 4 day fast. I was a total saint and DIY electrolyte water is ALL consumed along with fresh water and a single cup of black coffee each a.m. After the fast…Fasting BG down in the 80’s each day since! Waking ketones up to 1.2++ evening ketones in the high 2’s and low 3’s. These are numbers I NEVER hit before the fast and I even started this whole journey with a WHITE KNUCKLE COLD TURKEY 48 hour fast!
Funny thing is the 1st two days of my 4 day fast my blood sugar STAYED AT A ROCK SOLID 105, 105, 105. Something broke the third day and my sugar was 79…that was lowest I had seen in two plus months of this…
I am down 17 pounds now and living OMAD. I still struggle with it trying to hit a full 24 hours. Some days I do; other days I go 22, or 23 hours. I eat clean with 80% fat, Protein at about 65-85 grams and green leafy veggies and cauliflower only.
I hope this might help someone. Thanks for listening.
