O.K. I've had it up to here! The word "CHEAT" must die

So here’s my 2 cents on the whole carb thing…I’m sorry folks but THEY JUST SUCK! (for lack of a better word!). Yup, I used the “cheat” thing drifting from the KETO path and let me tell you I felt absolutely HORRIBLE. I felt drained, my knees hurt, I felt sick to my stomach and then yes crashed. We’ve all heard that little jingle----“what would you dooooooo for a klondike bar”…after that whole ordeal I just suffered…ABSOLUTELY F’N NOTHING!!!.
Stay the course friends and JUST KEEP SLUGGIN’.
Be safe.

So did y’all end up deciding what is better wording than “cheat”?

I went on an outing with my students today, whom I love, and they wanted to eat ice-cream.

I got 2 scoops of joghurt ice-cream, one plain, one with berries.

I said “Well this is not very low carb” (my students know I am eating low carb) but CHOSE to have it.

It’s the first time in 10 weeks that I’ve consciously eaten something utterly non-keto.

It wasn’t “cheating”. It was a concious choice.

It wasn’t a craving. I didn’t even particularly enjoy it, as I ate it.

I can feel myself feeling different now (3 hours later). Definitely not in ketosis and now experiencing mild “carb cravings”, which is annoying, but was obviously/ predictably going to happen.

Now I’ll have to wait til I’m back in ketosis.

So what is this, given it’s not a “cheat” ?

Maybe an alternative indulgence?

#84

There you go: it was a choice.

(icky) #85

Yeah, I realise

I’m just wondering what it should be “called” re the original post.

I did a CCC ?

A concious-carb-choice ?

#86

That’s what I meant: I don’t think you need another word!

Conscious carb choice is a bit cumbersome, but CCC might catch on

Calculated Carb Choice with Concious Consequences

I agree, it’s a word choice and means different things to different people in this context. However, I think the general accepted connotation is that if you ‘cheat’ on this ‘diet’, then somehow you’re being immoral and guilt ensues. I think for most people who have been following this lifestyle for a while, they probably don’t give a rat’s butt what you call it when you eat more carbs on a given day, and even more, don’t really care if others do it or not.

My concern, if I had one, is for people who are just getting started with this lifestyle or having trouble sticking to it. If they hear the word cheat in reference to food, then perhaps in their mind they think all carbs are off limits forever and that can make a person less likely to stick to the lifestyle permanently. If I were going to teach a class on this lifestyle, I would never call eating more carbs a cheat. I would frame it as a choice. When you have the choice to do something or not do something, you’re more likely to adhere to the habit/lifestyle you’re trying to form.

For me, in my mind, it’s a choice and that’s part of why I find this way of eating so easy to follow.

Self Sabotage

#92

Far too fluffy, and accepting!

(icky) #93

Nope. TOTALLY disagree.

Might be for some. Might be so for you.

DEFINITELY not for everyone!

Not everyone is doing Keto for weightloss, or to overcome a carb/ food addiction.

(Teresa (turtle)) #94

This is fine for me because I am totally accepting of my choices.

(icky) #95

It’s fine for me too, because I am very fluffy :joy:

#96

You can disagree all you want, but if you are doing KETO for any reason, you self sabotage when you stop.

(icky) #97

Nope. I choose to do keto and I choose to interrupt it.
I choose what I eat. Full stop.

If I stay up late and am tired the next day, that is my CHOICE.
If I buy something expensive and then have to cut my spending back for a while, that is my CHOICE.
If I have drinks with friends and have a slight hangover the next day, that is my CHOICE.

You don’t get to tell other people which of their choices are “self-sabotage” and which aren’t.

#98

I’m not telling you anything, just like no one is telling me just a little bite won’t hurt you. I no longer SELF SABOTAGE. I no longer justify bad choices, or allow others to justify it for me.

Its absolutely your body, and your health, and your choice. Mine is to not SELF SABOTAGE.

(icky) #99

I agree that it CAN be self-sabotage, but that’s something every smart, responsible, empowered adult has to decide for themselves. It’s not something anyone else can judge.

If it’s self-sabotage for you then sure, it is.

(Randy) #100

Yep. I never put any judgements on peoples choices. If you decide some of those choices are not working for you, then it’s time to make different choices.
