I’m not judging anyone at all, but I wasn’t clear: what I meant was, if I was diagnosed diabetic, there would be no excuse for me. I assure you, I have no interest in judging anyone.

But yes, you’re right – we all lapse. I just think I’d lapse a lot more rarely if I had a diagnosed metabolic condition.

I just drop pre-prepared graphics on people who use that expression. My favorite is from Robb Wolf:

“1. You don’t cheat with food. 2. You eat food. 3. There are consequences to what you put down your pie hole. 4. That is all.”

I too abhor that word. I’d like to reach out and strangle those who use it. To me, it strongly suggests that the person has not embraced this way of eating as a lifestyle and tells me that there’s a chance they may still be “dieting” for a few months before they go back to “normal” eating. At best, I’m with Khan that words have denotative meaning, and “cheat” is not a positive word to me.

Sure, eat off-plan if you wish (people do; it’s okay to choose to do within parameters you define), but call it that. At least it indicates that they HAVE a plan the rest of the time—LOL.

I’ve never had a cheat day yet.I had for a split second after court to go pig oUT n mcdees but why? To be sick? To literally throw up .nope not gonna.I struggle with night time emotional eating …so instead of bad food or cheat.I chew gum or eat 10 pieces of pork rinds.

Pork rinds rule! With guacamole. And yet when I was first introduced to them pre keto I wasn’t interested. Now they are better than chips!

I have been doing good o keto 3 months lost 28 lbs n 51 inches and I start to panic n fight myself literally not to saba toge myself.it’s exhausting like angel on one shoulder devil on other.I want to lose n felt good n wear cool clothes.but on other hand that means being noticed.or looked at.

My anniversary on June 22nd, and not sabotaged once. I don’t see it as a diet in the Weight Watchers sense of the word. You know, lose weight, feel great, and then put it all back on again! I see it as a lifestyle choice, and I’m very happy I chose it.

I found re-framing it in terms of ‘sabotage’ instead of ‘cheating’ to be clearer for me with respect to reminding myself of the consequences.

Agreed. To me “sabotage” says I’m behaving in a way I don’t want to behave, while “cheat” implies I’m following someone else’s rules.

I agree about the silliness of using the word cheat for any way of eating/dieting - it seems a self defeating perspective and the beginning of the slippery slope to the bottom of the cliff from where you started. Weight gain plus some, loss of hard earned health benefits etc. Those who use the term cheat are they bringing it from their days of dieting/calorie restriction/calorie counting? What else are they also bringing? “I’ll do keto until I get to goal weight then stop” scenario?
The longer you walk the keto journey the greater the opportunity to dig up the old ways of thinking and questioning all of the BS we were fed - CICO, eggs, red meat, low fat, high carb (pasta, wholemeal bread). We have potentially thought in terms of what is restricted, out of bounds dictated by another authority rather than choosing what to put in our mouths through a willingness to heal the damage we’ve done through mis-information regarding dietary advice.
I know this started as a light-hearted yet heart-felt rant but this has set me thinking about the psychological/phsiological drivers of the times when we sabotage, cheat, slip up, go off plan, treat ourselves. Maybe a new thread…

I follow a Keto woe for health and pain management. My weight loss is minimal over eight months only ten pounds. I would like to drop five more but my body seems happy here.
Eating off plan is only hurting myself as the pain increases. When I eat off plan in is not a cheat but a conscious decision to neglect my health.
However I am not so obsessed that I would call it a cheat the few times I do it just a lapse in better judgment.

That is the problem though isn’t it? Ownership.
So many prefer to blame it on ridiculous things like “My sister baked It and she would have been insulted” Surely killing you with foody crap, is a greater insult! People need to cut the weak excuses and do it, or don’t!

A form of emotional blackmail when people make and offer food that they know you choose not to eat. Then when you say no to stay true to your own preferences you are the problem! These days I would rather someone offer me a bowl of macadamias, almonds or even peanuts than chocolate cake. Having spent so much time away from sugar it really has so little appeal that I don’t want any of it, which of course makes me strange un a world full of sugar.

I’m Keto for a year now, you get used to it. Your friends and family get used to it too and they’ll eventually stop. Sometimes, I wag my old fatty picture at them to remind them it’s how I Kept the weight Off. Shuts everybody up real fast.

Easier and quick on the shopping though lol
Hubby and I can shop in 15 mins now. Pork rinds, then to veg, meat aisle etc

Must admit I have been even harsher and said “I don’t want to be fat and unhealthy like you!” that one really shuts them up lol
