Nutrition label reads 0 carbs but ingredients list sugar

(Ryan Tuttle) #1

Im not sure if this goes under food or science but…

Ive noticed that some labels show zero carbs but then list sugar as an ingredient. Im assuming that the idea is there is so little sugar added that it is negligable.

But im noticing this on a bunch of products such as my mayo which lists sugar as the 5th ingredient and lists zero carb.

Any thoughts? Is it an irrelivent amount of carbs as far as keto goes?

I don’t know the answer to your question. I just stay away from those products.

Depends on portion size. If there’s less than 1 carb per portion, they are allowed to say 0, is what I understand.

I thought the rule was

if carbs less than 0.5, then they put 0
else if carbs less than 1, then they put “<1”

Ive seen <1 carb. Especially on some cheese.

You can make your own mayo. It is just egg whites and olive oil. It will likely taste better than the factory stuff. One thing to do is add ingredients that you like for taste. Here is a good recipe for ideas:
