Numbers

(Samantha Drewry) #1

Hi there.

I’m 4 days in to my keto journey. When I first decided to start, I was told not to worry about numbers, just cut out all carbs.

Im pretty sure I’ve been eating less than 20g per day of carbs (again, haven’t been keeping precise track of this, but don’t eat anything with more than a carb per serving), but really haven’t been counting/measuring anything else (protien vs fat etc.)

When should I start keeping better track of this stuff? Should I already be doing it?

Thanks!

It’s mostly up to you when or how you track. I would recommend whatever is sustainable. If you feel good and you are seeing the benefits you want whatever they may be (high energy levels, weight loss, mental clarity) then keep doing what you are doing. If those benefits aren’t happening then look at tracking to see where you should improve.

This is what worked for me: I tracked strictly for my first 3 weeks in Keto to get an idea and learn what I needed. Then I didn’t track for several months and just ate intuitively and lost 28lbs. Now my weight loss has plateaued and I’m tracking based on my new macro needs untill I’ve learned what my smaller body needs.
It’s all in your preference! Hope this helps!

Why do you feel the need to change? Are you seeing results without tracking?

IMO, if your goal is weight loss, start keeping track of your carbs now since 20g or below of carbs is the ideal number to achieving ketosis. It also gets you prepared for tracking the rest of your macros without feeling so overwhelmed in the beginning, since weighing and tracking can be tedious. After a few weeks, you can start tracking the rest of your macros, or you can start earlier too if you’d like.
