NSV, Caught by surprise!

Thought it might be fun to hear victories that caught you off guard. Ones that you weren’t expecting or looking for.

I had one of those moments today.
I was packing for my vacation that begins this coming weekend and was going through my closet of older clothes looking for some pants that might fit better. Before starting Keto I was wearing size 42/44 waist pants so figured that a couple pair of size 38 jeans I had been hanging onto would probably fit now. I tried them on and OMG, baggy! I then grabbed a pair that were 36, still baggy. I was astounded to say the least. I was sure that I hadn’t gotten down to that size. Soooo, I had a pair of 34’s from years ago and figured I would give it a shot. They fit with a little room to spare! Woo Hoo!!:joy::joy::joy::joy:
I don’t have a smaller size to try and will have to go shopping soon I fear (despise shopping). I now have to figure out what to do with a dozen pair of pants that I have no use for. What a great problem to have.

So tell me yours… ?

Brill, that’s 8/10 inches off your waist, well done that’s amazing. I still have some 36 inch waist jeans, but I like and fit into my 32 inch waist jeans better.

Here’s mine, and I wouldn’t recommend it, but I’m traveling right now and partway through my trip decided that I wouldn’t even try to stay LC - so I’ve had plantains, yuca, rice, corn (also ice cream, more dark chocolate than I should ever have in one sitting). It’s been wonderful whole food for the most part, fresh and local, just much higher carb than I generally do. But my energy is solid, digestion is great, my belt is on my smallest setting, and on the days that I decide to wait to eat until lunch or dinner I feel… just fine. I may have reached a point after a while on (very lazy) keto that I can slip in and out without much trouble.

I plan to go back to LC as soon as I’m home next week, but I’m delighted that I may have improved my insulin sensitivity enough in the past year that changes to my diet are just not a problem anymore. I’ve never found LC/keto to feel restrictive, but it’s been really nice to be able to eat what I’m served without worrying about it.

[again, I wouldn’t recommend this for folks who have serious metabolic issues… I had some insulin resistance but i think my highest A1C might have been 5.4, and now it’s 4.8]

This one caught me by surprise…

Couple of weeks ago I pulled up to the house after being in Houston for the week on business. My husband gave me a big hug and then pulled back and said with a smile and an exaggerated drawl… “You get all gussied up for me?”

I had on jeans and a t-shirt so I thought he must have meant makeup (I only wear it to work, not at home). I laughed and said I wasn’t wearing any makeup! His eyebrows went up and he grinned and told me how much better my skin looked since “going keto”!

Saturday out window shopping
Wanted to get some jeans
I then realized I’m out of the most adult sizes

Had to veer off in to the boy/teenager section
Yes!!! That means I can get back to school clothes🤣
Sales a Plent. Awesome!

Um
Then I realized I’m far from being a teenager in age . Past that😳
And I’m not In school😓

Slightly off topic, I’ve been amazed about the change in bra size demographics. As a young woman, i would have sworn that the average size bra available was somewhere between a 34B and a 36C. Now, it’s more like a 36D is a typical bra, and they go up to bras I could cut in half and wear as rain hats, even in stores not known for specialty sizing. I’m feeling like even with what seem to me like normal sized breasts, I’m going to wind up shopping in the preteen department.

Problem with the smaller/teen bras is that they nearly all now come with built-in boobs - it’s just assumed that we all want to be busty.

(karen) #9

Yes, that too. I can’t imagine starting with a 42DD and then adding a layer of padding.

#10

Perhaps all the bra designers are men

LOL, wow did this thread go down a different path. One I surely wouldn’t have expected.:rofl::rofl::rofl:

#12

Sorry Ron - just had to get that off my chest :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

More chest talk, I love it.:+1::joy::joy::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Hey, did my first blood test today. Ketones - 1.4. I was totally surprised since I’ve upped my carb intake to 30-40. I was convinced I had blown it. Now, if there were only a test for fat adaptation…

(She had one feck to give and that feck is gone.) #15

Try Aerie for bras. Lots of smaller band sizes in combo with all cup sizes. Also, have unlined options. I got a bunch on sale and they’re cute and super comfortable.

Karen, this reminded me of an NSV I had at the department store. I remember a few years back how hard it was to find shirts in 3X and 4X sizes. I had to buy my shirts at a Big and Tall store, or just put up with them not quite fitting.

Last year I went looking for some SMALLER shirts, because my current ones were just getting way too baggy. Same department store, couldn’t hardly find any shirts my size, but plenty of 3X and 4X shirts. It was a victory for me, but suddenly dawned on me how bad the obesity epidemic has gotten.

I bought a pair of dressy pants last week… From Costco… So I couldn’t even try them on. I started a year ago busting out of my size 24’s. These were a 14, and fit like a glove! And because it was Costco, they were only like, $12! :joy:

I’ve been keto for 10 months, down 8 lbs, post menopause woman so slow but steady. I went on an extended vacation so had more carbs than usual but tried to keep the food intake keto although we had wine pretty much everyday. It was a nice holiday and I didn’t deprive myself but i didn’t binge either. I was ecstatic to step on the scale and see that I am now and have been all month, down 9 lbs. Please don’t loose sight if it is slow. 9 lbs feels so good and I love feeling healthy and in control which eating keto has done for me. No need to snack at night… it’s really amazing. When I did have carbs, they were nutrient dense. Sweet potatoes fries, a peach, some cherries and LOTS of red wine. Most folks didn’t notice that I wasn’t eating like they were. They may have wondered why I had full fat sour cream and an extra piece of cheese but these things kept me on track because I wasn’t hungry.

I can.:grinning:

What a great feeling.
