Not sure if this is right forum but urine test color question

Hi all! Hoping I can get some opinions. I’ve been on the Keto diet for a month and I’m still using urine test strips to monitor the color and ketones in my urine, as I’ve been experimenting with my carb intake to see exactly how many I can have (under 50 grams) and remain in Ketosis. Well
This morning and pretty much everyday, I’m staying in the dark purple/darker colors with the urine strips. I read that as you adapt to Ketosis and stay in it for longer that the color won’t stay as dark. Should I be worried or concerned that I still have an incredible high amount of ketones in my urine despite being in this diet for 4 weeks?

7 weeks in and mine have never waiverd from the two darkest levels.

While I think that’s generally true that ketones will decrease as your body begins using them more efficiently, I think there’s also room for individual differences. It could be that some people simply produce much higher levels of ketones and will continue to do so even after their body starts using them.

Thanks Annie! I was worried that it was a sign I was severely dehydrated or something. I know thats something ketoers have to watch out for but I’m doing my best to get a good bit of pink Himalayan salt into my diet everyday. Best of luck to you on your Keto journey!

Well, my electrolytes do tend to get out of whack with the slightest change in exercise, so they could be related, but I’m going to guess if it’s the case it’s the high ketones causing the imbalances and not the other way around, simply because the electrolyte problem isn’t consistant but my ketone levels are. It would stand to reason that if the dehydration caused high levels, we would be able to reduce them by drinking lots of water or ketoaide. And I consume as much as 3 litters on days I run, but still no budge in ketones.
