Here is a recent picture of two young men of the same age as the soldiers in WWII. Notice that there is a layer of fat over the abdominal muscles and ribs, that was not present in the picture from seventy years earlier.

To me, “skinny” means too thin. I guess when people use it as a positive, they mean it as a compliment - “you’re so skinny!”

These guys were way ahead of their time. Even Jack LaLane didn’t have a sick-pack (although he was like 80).
