Not hungry just feel hollow

(Ellen) #1

In my 3rd week and am definitely not as hungry but feel kinda hollow, what’s this about? Also my brain’s fixated on chips (french fries) today and I could cry at how much I want a portion, covered in salt & vinegar, this is my first real craving since the 1st week and I’m not happy.

If you got a craving for chips score yourself some pork rinds they do the trick for me.

Ugh…I hate cravings too. I am a food addict, this is very hard for me as well.
Try a good pinch of sea salt on your tongue and drink plenty of fluids. I use the salt a lot, and though I still find myself thinking too much about food sometimes, it seems to really alleviate the “edge”. Hope this helps.

That’s carb cravings. It’s like your brain has finally figured out that being hungry doesn’t give you carbs any more so you stop being hungry, but you still want carbs and end up in this weird limbo. It’ll pass in a little while, could be up to a week, but once gone you’ll only ever have weak ghosts return unless you cheat.

Eating can help even if you’re not hungry, but don’t force yourself if you’re stuffed. Or just push through, that’s the best option if you can hack it.

Thanks all. I’ll try the pork rinds & salt tricks, although I’ll probably get some odd looks in the office if I start eating salt!

Ye gods, I hope this doesn’t last a week, I’ll be an utter witch, but thanks for the explanation.

You might need to up your salt intake? Try having 1-2tsp spread out over the day. Other than that, divert your attention to tasty keto foods. I would get online and look at recipes when I had cravings - feed your virtual tastebuds and get them craving something else. I do feel you though, I also miss potatoes and I always loved salt and vinegar too. However, the pros really do start outweighing these seemingly big in the moment cons. I will tell you a secret.I used to love salt and vinegar kettle chips - all time fave. They had them in the supermarket here (France) a while back and I just couldn’t resist. I was so looking forward to them and drooling. I opened the packet and ate a few. Ugh! All expectations fell flat and I was very aware in the moment that it felt like self-harm. The rest went in the bin and I doubt I will ever bother with them again. If you had told me I would do that a year or two ago, I would have laughed in your face.

I did something similar once. Visiting my family I had some home made bread with butter and cheese. The once tasty breakfast now tasted like cardboard and I could only manage a couple bites before I threw it away (saving the cheese) and fried some eggs instead.

@Elle79

Eat some good fat! Always helps me with any cravings.

Hollow…that is a good word to describe it!

I am in week four and have been noticing the same thing this week, especially just after waking up. I would normally be very hungry in the morning, but have noticed this week that it feels different. I can definitely eat, but can’t exactly say that I am hungry. Hollow describes the feeling well. Not in a bad emotional kind of way, but as in I can feel that there is not a lot in my stomach and am not sure how to feel about it because my body isn’t telling me to eat. I’ve been eating a little something anyway, but find myself feeling full at about half of what I would normally eat.

Cravings have not been an issue for me, thankfully!

I too have the “hollow” feeling – that’s the perfect word. I’m in my fifth week and I feel that in place of my past feelings of hunger. When it strikes me I use my new go-to snack: sour cream. I stir in salt and perhaps chopped dried onion (adds a trace of carbs). It tastes exactly like classic French Onion Dip. The point is, a shot of fat and salt always solves the ‘hollow’ feeling for me. Stay with it and find your personal solution. You can do it.

Thank you all for the encouragement and ideas, the salt one def helped me feel a bit perkier and the cravings a bit easier to bear. Couldn’t find any pork rinds but will keep looking, have whipped up some mayo and will take that & cheese to work for nibbles if not hungry. Mych love to you all. Xxx
