NoCarbvember Adventure!

How was the quail egg? I saw quail eggs so many times, it’s not an unusual thing, not even oh so expensive for a few but somehow I never tried it… They are so adorable, I need to make some very pretty dish with them when I buy some…

Yeah, we’re not big fans of turkey either. We thought about deep frying Cornish game hens this year for Thanksgiving.

I’ve been going back and forth between 3MAD and 2MAD. I’d like to just get on a 2MAD schedule which today is one of them.

Lunch was a 1/3 pound 80/20 hamburger, some egg pudding, and chicken liver pate. I’m definitely satisfied. Lol.

This afternoon, my son and I are heading to a local farm to buy pastured pork, chicken, and eggs. We did a taste comparison a few weeks ago between pastured pork and store bought pork. Omg! The pastured pork is so much more flavorful. The local farm is much pricier than the grocery store, of course, but I think where flavor, nutrients, and omega 6 to omega 3 profile are concerned, it may be worth it.

@FrankoBear, love the term ‘straight from the clacker’ those are some fresh eggs. I like to call them ‘bum nuts’ sometimes.

@Shinita Your pork talk has me wanting some. Baaaad. Pork roast for breakfast for me.

Love your daily food updates @Fangs , gives me some good ideas.

(Karen) #364

@Carnivoor I nearly popped to the butcher today after visiting my friend … I am in his support bubble … on my list is ask about rabbit and neck of mutton as they were equal favs of my grand wonderful cooking. However I thought about all the meat in the freezer and decided to use some of that first. Hmmm not so sure that was a great idea now … soooo jealous lol

(Karen) #365

What’s the food in the pic of your brunch?

(Karen) #366

Lunch was the left over tandoorichicken breast fillets in the grated cheddar, lovely jubley and just had a rump steak which unfortunately wasn’t all that … a fair bit of grissle running through it. Prefer sirloin and rib eye.

Had to eat some streaky bacon to make up for it lol.

Got a beef brisket out of freezer to slow cook over night, hopefully it will be defrosted in time!

(Daisy) #367

It was so very delicious! I loved it. I will eat several tomorrow with my meal

(Vic) #368

Spare ribs, pork.

And for dinner I had this:

Beef liver and chicken hearts.

#369

don’t count on me for any kind of real variety now
being years onto this plan I gotta say I eat the same darn thing mostly…very narrow but I sure love it. I kinda just weeded down into this very small amt of stuff I adore and just kinda hang here with it, but seeing what others are enjoying is fun!

I almost did an OMAD day but nope. I ate 3 times.

It was not exactly but almost my first meal:

Kitchen photo, it never works (my meat often looks like it is burnt but it isn’t) but I had no mood to bring everything outside of the house, the cats are crazy lately though they basically always are. They perfected their starving little kitten act and I pity them when it’s cold and rainy but some of them started to get a bit fat (not like they can’t lose it in a day)…

So, roasted pork chuck, smoked pork chuck, sponge cake (not very well whipped as that’s more work but with a little cheese in most pieces), sour cream and spicy egg milk with cream.
It seems awfully tiny and well, it’s not much indeed though the meat is dense.

Alvaro obviously didn’t eat his share (it’s way more than this meat as I managed to taste it a bit too enthusically last evening and night) so we will have leftovers for tomorrow too.

So, 1 more day and I did 2 weeks. I won’t feel compelled to continue it this very strict style afterwards (but I keep carnivore-ish for November, of course and I even try to do it stricter than necessary as long as it’s comfortable), I honestly see no point. My curiosity is satisfied (well, I will see the bigger parts of the results in December), I am not really motivated anymore, I just have momentum and whatnot so we will see but it’s November so carnivore-ish will be kept. That’s nice. I have a definitely not strict plan for Sunday (liver stew. is that a thing? not like it matters, almost everything can be a stew. I had enough liver without onions without a real need and I am curious if I still can eat this sweet vegetable) and than I probably come back to this stricter style without feeling much need to stick to it if it’s not fully comfortable. I still do more than what is optimal for me as far as I can tell but it’s no problem so I will be very pleased if I can finish it like that.

2 weeks without sweetener (except a tiny bit in my mustard but I didn’t even eat it in the last days), it’s a first  My first carni trials already brought a huge change, I stopped using sweeteners every day but I still didn’t go for such a long time without if I remember correctly. Sometimes my desserts would have been better with some sweetener (very rarely, sweetness is overrated) but I didn’t miss it at all, I knew that, perk of carnivore(-ish). I only missed it in the past (and sometimes I just ate it) when I had no proper meat and couldn’t eat my eggs in other forms. I have other ideas now and I don’t run out of meat so easily anyway.

Your breakfast looks delicious Shinita. It almost seduces me to have it to. But I can’t, not hungry yet. Keep posting pictures, I enjoy that :+1:

(JJ) #372

I ate my first bit of sweetened food today, today was day 21 zc for me.
My desire for food at this point is hormonally influenced, I acknowledged it early in the day and just sat with it until this evening when I made the conscious decision to go and buy the item and enjoy it with my family.
I won’t say what it was as I know that is not helpful for others, only that I had one portion and felt done with that idea. No regrets or guilt, which is a big thing for me.

Other than that, a very good 2MAD after a busy night at work, beef and butter for breakfast and pork, beef and pepperoni sausages (without any artificial/plant fillers in them) for dinner with some haloumi. Haven’t had a BM in a few days, however, took 2x antiemetics in the last day or two which have the side effect of constipation- so that make sense. I only took them as I have looked after many, many patients with V&D the last week- my barrier nursing of them was impeccable, yet I still worried at the slightest rumbling of my own tummy, so took the antiemetics just in case

Halfway through NoCarbvember.

3 hour drive today with a snoring Labrador copilot this morning. Got to the end of a busy week at work with work done and a “show-your-face” sundowner event = pizza and soft drinks - I drank water. I was too tired to drive the 300km home, so I stayed in the city one more night.

Food today (so far): Bacon and eggs with 3 slices Jarlsberg cheese cooked in butter. I am so much happier cooking my own food in my own frypan on my own stove.

I have to go shopping tomorrow as that his one of my chores and the pantry is empty.

It’s a rainy late Spring weekend. There is a cold southerly wind, so one last chance to fire up the wood burning stove. Just had a beef bone broth. The rain is falling on the tin roof. I love a steak cooked over a wood fire.

I so understand this feeling. I went nutso early on with zc when transitioning because of how my lifestyle used to be…I screwed up hubby wanting to eat out, any and all ‘little social’ events like your pizza party would drive me crazy and ALL I WANTED at all times was to ‘be left the hell alone’ to live my life and cook and eat my own food. Sometimes there was ‘too much life’ on me at times LOL

ZC changed me that way. I found personally the more simple I went into eating carnivore so much more I focused on changing in my life. This is how it went down for me. I noticed I didn’t want to work the same way with so many hrs and being dragged thru life by ‘things I had to do’ and ‘handle’. I am very minimalist type and the ‘off the grid’ type and travel type that wants simple travel in my rv and leave me alone mostly so as my eating changed and I got very secure in it, I started examining how I want to head into the later years of my life and I want them ONLY on my terms now. And that is what I do. Got hubby to take early retirement which he did and out of his crap hard job that was working 4 --12 hr days and killing him, he now does driving work on his own time and loves it. I shut down my farm biz and found so much time on my hands to do my things. I just changed it all up  Happy with it all so far…now ‘the covid thing’ killed our travel the way we want and upset the apple cart but life marches over all of us so this can’t change but I can change around thru it all and am doing just that now. Planning trips closer to home and just getting out in life and enjoying it the way I want.

hubby said what ya want for xmas. said nothing cause I don’t and then I thought, well I am buying me a big old electric fry pan for the rv, so I said get me that! A good one! I don’t like my steaks on a propane grill and I wanted a very hot fry pan to cook my steak exactly how I like my steak cooked in the camper while on a trip. So I am setting me up to do just that. I flash fry high heat and crisp that sucker, then flip and get it off blue rare and I like my stove control for doing just that. I dont even want a steak cooked by a restaurant, they don’t make it how I make it  I didn’t want to flash fry in the rv due to my smoking out the joint, so an electric fry pan is perfect for me to set up outside in our grill tent and make my own food my way! I tell ya FB it is SO important to me to do just that. I feel you so much on what ya wrote there

rambled on a bit with all that but yea I changed alot thru my eating lifestyle. I never knew it would give me more focus on other parts of my life I want to control. I control my food and it gives me more than enough, all I need to thrive…then when that happened and I feel so good, I want to put it thru my whole lifestyle now. ZC can make our eyes open about alot in our lives  who knew, well it did for me anyway :sunny:

------------food yesterday was

almost a lb. NY strip steak
3 cheeseburger patties
1 tin of sardines

got me like 18 NY strips for the freezer. Will hit store later today to buy some more. Sale price low so gonna grab. Not one doubt about that! I feel so secure and cozy and happy when I got steaks in the freezer but heck I don’t wanna freeze too many cause I don’t like them frozen long but heck, 30 steaks is only 30 days of eating for me…they won’t be froze too long LOL

a steak a day keeps the Dr away

ZC fine here. Feel great. Happy. Solid on plan. Couldn’t ask for more.

(Vic) #375

 yep

So the rabbit got cooked in low carb brown beer with an union.
It was delicious

Rabbit liver, lung, kidney, tongue, brain, eyes etc were part of the deal and very tasty.

Heya Peeps… OMGOSH…you all have nailed this food-photography thing! I wasn’t hungry this morning, and now seeing all the eats here…I think I might need to cook me something afterall!

I never did end up making the meatloaf. Got stuck in the workshop, cleaning. One project led to another, then another, then another… That rabbit hole was deep, lemme tell ya! But, the shop is clean. Tools are clean. Surfaces and molds are clean…everything is prepped. Worked 1-10:30 yesterday at the store, got home and had to clean the house up too. ugh. I’d been working on it little by little, and still have to tidy up the kitchen some. That is the downfall of having a workshop built onto ones house, and teaching classes here. Everyone wants to see what the house looks like- since we rebuilt it after the fire. So many people donated to the go-fund me that a relative set up - I feel like they certainly deserve a tour! Keeping Rufus in check will be a challenge though. Puppies!

Eats have been pretty darn good. Finally made that package of chicken thighs, and pulled the skin of everyone else’s thighs- and fried it up and made my “chips”. (They pull the skin off anyways—so I just did it for them. They have no idea what they’re missing!!!) For a couple of meals, I cooked up some ground beef with a little taco-seasoning, added a little shredded cheddar. Yum. No taco sauce or sour cream, though. Had some bacon and eggs, cold chicken and butter, and can’t think what else. I kinda O-D’d on the steaks…never thought I’d utter those words. But - I need to save some for the depths of winter, and there are SO many other cuts to nosh on!

Hey - are any of you getting limited on how much food you can buy? Hubby just told me that one of employees said WalMart is limiting how many packages of chicken you can buy - to 2!!! WHAT THE HECK?! I know the independent truckers are striking on the 26-29th this month, but damn. WalMart doesn’t have independent truckers. Though, I can see where that might cause some supply chain issues down the road. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing that.

Hubby is out getting his deer license this morning. Opening day is tomorrow. We have permits to take up to 7, if we want. (Farmers/ranchers get dibs.) The idea is, we get 1 or 2 deer, then cut out the backstraps and have those along with turkey, duck, and grouse for Thanksgiving.

Gotta get moving now, and cook up some eggs or something - then get myself put together to teach at 11am. Sorry…didn’t mean to write a book here - lol! Just hadn’t been on in a few days. Keep up the great eats, and photos!! You guys rock! SB

I haven’t yet, but my state governor just issued an “ultra mandate” effective today regarding masks, so I will be avoiding the store for awhile. Fortunately I am well stocked on meats.

(Daisy) #378

Nose to tail to the extreme! Quail eggs, boars head wieners with my special recipe hot dog chili, bone broth, halloumi, pig ear, chicken feet, chicken liver pâté, and bacon. Yumyumyumyum! This was my second attempt at pig ear, the first was a total and utter failure. This time was better! The chicken feet were from my rooster that I butchered over the summer. I put both in my batch of bone broth yesterday, then air fried this morning. The thing on the far right is little crispies that were in the bottom of the air fryer, I’m thinking fat off the pig ear? It was one of my favorite things on the platter :joy:

(Karen) #379

Not sure I could have the little rabbit looking at me on the plate … I can eat any meat so long as it doesn’t resemble the animal. Funnily enough I can eat fish that still has the head and tail so not sure what the difference is really. The meaty bits look very nice though and seeing your photo won’t put me off buying it myself… it will have to come already for cooking though lol and not looking like a bunny haha!

100 stair runs (up) (1000ft) 50 push ups, followed by a very brisk 8 mile walk with my daughter… our walk and talk catch up day. Was pretty hungry by the time I returned home so tucked into the Lambs liver I defrosted overnight. Liver isn’t my favourite meat but it was fried in the leftover beef rib dripping from earlier in the week and was very tender. Can’t do liver made like leather lol. Served in a small dessert bowl, not a whole big amount so followed it with some streaky bacon also fried in same fat.

Not over keen on bacon either as I didn’t eat pork before going keto and thinking seriously of not buying any more. I have one large pack left in fridge to get through but may pop that in the freezer. We will see.

Have slow cooked the beef brisket I defrosted yesterday. It has had plenty hours overnight so hoping it is good and tender later in the day.
