NoCarbvember Adventure!

cool. what country are you in that you can get horse steaks?
just wondering.

My brother was in Iceland and he had it and said it was good.
Just caught my eye and curious on it.

(Vic) #242

I live in Belgium.

Horse steak is pretty normal here.
Not the best piece of meat thou, its very lean. I prefer fatty meat.
It is variation and I’m in to that lately, 3 to 5 different things on a plate.

The problem with forums:

While we are very friendly and on this forum, in particular, very civil, we really are all strangers. We only know someone by what they post in their messages. Some people let all their baggage out, others are more private. That’s all fine. Unfortunately though, that means it’s hard to know when one is trying to be helpful how it will be taken.

I hope we all remember that the spirit of the forum and this thread is to provide support. We are all strangers trying to good by each other, which is really a beautiful thing, even if sometimes it gets taken differently than the intent of the message.

I think everyone is our little carnivore challenge is great!

#244

yea I get that with wanting some variation on your plate!
I am a fatty meat person also til that one day I want leaner. Body says eat a tad leaner and I do and then flip back to the fattier meats again. I just do what the body asks when it asks kinda eating.
I am mostly a 2 things on a plate person. I have the main meat then my side meat or seafood.

@Alexaar, I do believe there is hope for your autoimmune trouble. My brother has particularly bad psoriatic arthritis. His entire body is covered with psoriatic plaques. I convinced him to go keto and low oxalate, although he is mostly carnivore at this point. His psoriasis is slowly clearing up.

You may want to look into the Paleolithic Ketogenic Diet (PKD). I’ve heard good things about it helping with autoimmune disease.

Sophia Clemons is a doctor at Paleomedicina. They promote PKD.

My first attempt to upload a picture on the forum.

Here is lunch today. Deer, chicken, uncured bacon, cured bacon, meat salad.

I never tried to live on eggs, I couldn’t do that (I had a single day, I ate other things but no meat, I disliked eggs for a whole week afterwards. Egg-hating comes way, way, way earlier than one month for me, I could do it in 3 days once and I did eat many other things but I ate too many eggs).
I eat very few eggs now (we don’t have much and I am bored of them) and I never eat much dairy. My old flame with sour cream flared up a bit now but it happens, I don’t have a lot of every kind of food all the time and I get bored of things too.
I eat about everything I have and it seems to work well. And it’s still temporal, I haven’t reached a really sustainable and good style yet I guess - though I eat way better than most people already. It’s still forming, I am changing… It’s a big jump for me and I can’t do certain things, I don’t force-feed myself ever.

Of course. And I do it now, pretty strictly compared to people who touch sweeteners or tomato sauce. I will relax it later but it doesn’t even mean it won’t be strict (no plants is totally strict to me especially on a budget), it’s just I won’t be determined to be strict. I eat what I want, I am very good at this. It’s a tad fuzzy as different parts may want different things but I am usually in agreement with myself to a big extent and I think it will be perfect when I loosen up a little. Finding my sweet spot takes time especially that it’s evasive  But it’s an interesting journey.

I didn’t hear about these yet… I use dairy as I must. Without it I would be forced to do low-carb and extreme low-carb is better for me.
I wouldn’t mind cravings, I almost forgot about desiring things and as a hedonist, I value that… (There are bad cravings but I need much carbs for them in the first place and it’s not even enough.) I need hunger and appetite to feel complete and normal and carnivore pretty much took away both. I hope they will come back properly but until they don’t disappear completely, I am fine.
I am not really addicted to things ever (there were some exceptions but when I stopped, I didn’t miss them at all. it was just hard to stop as it was a habit. I had to run out of coffee - almost but the rest is for other purposes - to stop my 6-10 weak cups a day. and coffee was the only weak addiction problem where lack of carbs couldn’t help) so I don’t worry about it but I honestly see no problem in addiction to my actual items… I am addicted to so many things, fresh air, sunshine, walking, eggs… Cheeses never caused problems for me and it’s fine not eating perfect items as long as the body gets what it needs. Butter doesn’t have a perfect nutrition either and people eat it. I very nearly only eat good protein sources, people get away with way more unbalanced approaches. As my energy intake is smallish, I need to be better than them but I do what I can.

@JulesyMcJulesface: GRATS! You lose weight and looks good, yay!

And Kellyn gets prettier too

I actually met this attitude only a few years ago. I never really understand what is “breakfast food”. Why would we need differently in the morning? Sure, not cooked food, usually and people have habits and traditions but we can eat anything in the morning. (I don’t, I only can eat nothing in the morning but that’s not the point.)
People do it to the point that they don’t even eat “breakfast food” for lunch even if they desire it. It’s extremely illogical and antihedonistic to me. In my family, we eat whatever convenient and desirable at any time. I follow the basic rules of a general woe (I mean, “keto” or “carivore” is general, my personal actual style is specific) but let me enjoy myself as I want, I don’t want additional rules, only my very own ones. If I need food, I look at my options and choose, time of the day has nothing to do with it. Why would it? People are odd. I understand habits but if someone still desires something very different and it causes no problems, why not to eat it? Just to follow some weird tradition…?

By the way, what is not breakfast food in your breakfast? It sounds very breakfast food to me as far as I can tell. The carni bread isn’t normal for normal people but of course we eat according to our own woe so I don’t see the problem.

(Daisy) #248

Yayyyyyy!!! Beautiful plate!!!

(Daisy) #249

Haha that’s the attitude I’ve come to. What is breakfast food? What is breakfast? Who made the rule that this should be eaten at this time, but not that time? I say RUBBISH! Make your own rules! :joy::joy::smile:

(Vic) #250

Oh yeaa:+1::ok_hand: never hungry in the morning anyway

Hey again…
I probably should have waited until today to post rather than doing such a short one last night. Busy busy days make for short or no posts. =( Today was supposed to be my day off, but, have to go into for a few hours to work on a project for my boss, then come home and get to work prepping my workshop for a class on Saturday. I am supposed to have tomorrow off as well, but, who knows?!

So, our youngest son came over for dinner last evening. He had offered help to my husband in dragging a heavy farm implement out of the back 100 a couple days ago- and got really filthy. (My BIL got the thing stuck about 6 weeks ago, and left it.) Hubby hadn’t asked for help with it, and our boy just wandered out there (after work), and jumped right in to help. We don’t often see that side of him, as he does some pretty tough physical labor for work- and is tired when he gets home. So, that was really a blessing to have his help - and we wanted to say thank you. So, how better to thank a person than with a pile of steaks??!
So, I cooked up 4 ribeyes and 4 Tbones. (There was also salad, fries, etc…) but, steak is the main event around here. It was a wonderful meal.

I finally got more than 1-2 hours of sleep last night. Between hot flashes and the over-active puppy - I was really beginning to struggle. The combination of various lengths and types of fasting with the carnivore diet does wonders (FOR ME) to mitigate the energy/mental clarity issues I have with lack of sleep. When I fast , though, it is first and foremost for spiritual reasons - all these other side effects are just the bonus bennies that come along with it. But, I do feel fabulous this morning- and look forward to attacking the ever-growing to-do list.

Meats currently on-hand include:
All beef hot dogs
Grass fed steaks, ground beef, roasts, rib, etc.
Chicken
Uncured turkey bacon
There may be some turkey sausage too. Not sure.
Then the usual assortment of eggs, cheeses and processed beef sticks.

The steak, chicken and turkey bacon are my big three. The hot dogs I just grab for a quick protein/salt bomb from time to time. Been laying off everything else for the most part. Managed to make some bone broth the other day, and scraped out the marrow to blend in the broth. Wow, was that ever yummy!

We’ve had unseasonably warm weather the last week or so - after that ridiculous snow storm. Today the temps dropped into the 30’s. (Yesterday was in the 70’s.) So, back to reality. Looking for 2-3 inches of snow tonight, I believe. Gonna put myself together for a 4 hour shift, and make it count. Hope you all have a blessed day, and happy carnivoring! SB

There is a high? I thought it just makes people more awake, do you talk about that?
I never had that, I drank it for the taste and still couldn’t stop… Until now. YAY! If I had any real problems with coffee, it would have been easier to stop.

(Daisy) #253

Today’s meal: rolled rump, cheesy scrambled eggs topped with whipped tallow, chicken liver pâté, and almost a half stick of butter. Tomorrow is my weekly fast. Feeling great!

#254

Pretty! And they say carnivore plates are boring looking without color  Everything has a different color here, it’s a bit like autumn leaves color wise  I like it.

I am a “multiple things on plate” person too  And that’s a single course of my multi-course meal. I can only do it simpler if I have some very good dish like some stew or some big roast. But that’s for certain meals, not all the time. I really need variety.

It’s just a tiny thing, I ate this between my meat soup with poached eggs and my dessert (sour cream. I won’t get bored of it for long I think and it felt good after my spicy and salty pork):

It’s a tasty Camembert. I only had some Hungarian “less smell and taste the better” ones, they weren’t bad but it has TASTE!!! A lot of it. And it’s so soft  It’s called Coq.
Another cheese, 3 different kinds of smoked pork from the pig farm and a… rustic egg as they don’t peel properly lately. Probably the freshness, we barely get eggs so we eat them up quickly. No problem, I am bored of boiled eggs anyway. I barely eat any.
For some reason, mustard didn’t cross my mind. It happens sometimes now. I always ate it with these stuff before.

I have proper meat too but I didn’t want them now, they are for dinner. I have pork, fish and turkey liver.

After the first 2 days, OMAD is out of queston and 2MAD doesn’t happen either. I have a decent meal and very small additions later. At least I enjoyed my meal at 1am and 3am last night… Today’s lunch was more like a chore, I feel the food is good but I had slightly negative appetite despite I managed to get hungry! But eating a few dense bites is very easy even then, just a bit slow.

I will make some proper dishes in the next time. I will make fish tomorrow, in the usual cheesy coat and there will be liver again. I always just fried them (and mixed them with more fat) but I fancy some more proper, elaborated dish with it. Well there is always the mixing with eggs method… It works with everything, basically… But there must be liver dishes I could make. I go and search. And then probably make my own as usual. I want experiment with the wonderfully flexible “fried thing with sausage spice mix” dish. The new ones surely didn’t know it. The original was called “vegan sausage” and contained grains and oily seeds so it was promising as a keto stuff. I just omitted the grains, obviously and added eggs, kind of obviously as it’s me. Everything ends up with eggs if I make it more than once and it did good to this dish. Alvaro still has the ovo-vegetarian keto version, mine is carnivore but not enough dense as I can’t put a big amount salty pork skin into it. So I grab something else. It’s like my carnivore bread: any meat has a good chance. I have fish and liver, what can go possibly wrong? I aim for a carnivore version that is tempting for Alvaro. So I can stop putting oily seeds into it and making 2 different versions for us. I am sure he can handle things fried in lard at this point.

My cooking subtly changes, not surprisingly. If I will have more carnivore recipes for both of us, it will be good. But Alvaro cooking for himself for multiple days in the weekend is helpful too, it’s just nothing new. I just stopped making vegetable soups when I started to make meat soups. He makes a huge pot of dense vegetable soup that lasts for ~4 days and my meat soup is all mine  We reached perfection here after the compromise couldn’t work anymore. It’s so good, soups are very important for me. Or other wet dishes, it needn’t to be exactly a soup.

@Ketodaisy
that is one good looking plate. I ate alot of cheesey eggs back in the day…yum
that roast, hmmm  great pic

(Daisy) #256

I go back and forth on cheese. It is currently a “forth” phase :joy::joy:

(Daisy) #257

Yum!!! Love your picture!!

Yes, fresh eggs are the worst to peal!

(Kellyn ) #258

Hi my name is Kellyn and I am a coffee addict. I think it’s the heavy cream. I am contemplating removing it from my diet, but I am drawn to the creamy hotness of a cup of coffee w/ heavy cream. I am thinking this is probably why the scale has not moved in a few weeks. So I am back and forth in thinking I cut it out so the scale will move or I really need this comfort to distract from the holiday sweets that swarm my office this time of year. and Like @Ketodaisy, I am currently in the “forth” phase. I had to steal that @Ketodaisy…I love it!
I have cut the coffee before in the beginning of carnivore. I cut everything but meat and water, which I plan to do again at the beginning of the year. I guess you could say I am currently dirty carnivore since I continue with the coffee and occasional spice or seasoning. My motivation ebbs and flows. I know that the holiday are especially a time of year when it decreases and temptations seep in. I am just waiting of that surge of motivation to cut it back out cold turkey, which may not be until the new years when all motivation for change seems to rise. I know its a small thing and this way of eating I am seeing more and more permanent in my life. I know this is a journey and as all journeys the path changes as we go. I guess it just helps to talk all this out here in the presence of my carnivore peeps as you get this more than my friends or family do. What are your current realizations with this diet or things you have decided to change along the path of carnivore?

(Daisy) #259

Haha you’re welcome to steal it!! I have never made it through a holiday season unscathed and I am determined this will be the year!! My extended family isn’t currently willing to have get togethers with my family, so as of right now it should be pretty easy to make it through. I’m taking a trip to Amish country next weekend for our anniversary, but what I’m most looking forward to is finding raw dairy!! It’s not legal in my state.

I have changed so many things along my path on carnivore. Right now I’m really enjoying my omad high fat carnivore with weekly fasting. I’m heading into winter, so as long as I can stay the course through the holidays, that will give me a solid 8 months of super strict carnivore with no possibility of seasonal produce.

(Kellyn ) #260

wow, 8 months, that’s awesome! I will be 4 months in this Friday. I wish I could say I was strict. I have had a couple of off plan eating and it usually coincides with special occasions which is why my hesitation to cut the coffee as I am hoping having this as a go to for comfort during the holiday season. The first fall was my birthday and then the other was a special murder mystery dinner night with my husband. I tend to have that little voice in my head that says, “It’s a special occasion and how often will you get the chance to try this food or beverage again?” I have that little carb loaded devil on my shoulder whispering in my ear during most special occasions.
