I’ve been keto/carnivore for over three years. I don’t cheat, but I do make planned exceptions for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Because I was still eating veggies and fruit, adding in a slice of apple or pumpkin pie on those days wasn’t really a problem. (Those were my non keto splurges.I didn’t go overboard.)

Anyway, this year as a result of strict carnivore, I don’t think I’m going to make those exceptions. I do believe the microbiome changes when we remove foods from our diet. I believe that some of the terrible feelings from adding non carnivore foods after we’ve been carnivore for a while is because our bodies need to rebuild (maybe just awake from hibernation) our microbiomes and maybe enzyme secretions. I am worried a slice or two of pie would overwhelm my body’s ability to process them.

It’s possible @Fangs is correct and it’s just the body reacting to toxins, but I think our bodies lose what we don’t use, too.

I’m giving my trial 6 months. If I don’t notice any improvements, I will more than likely add some foods back to my diet. You can bet, I will be adding things back very slowly and in small quantities.

Edit: Oh, and I’m just not a vinegar fan. My daughter loves kombucha. I think it’s disgusting. :nauseated_face:

really good post VE…where did ya get that 3 yrs keto/carnivore info from? just wondering on that.

but IT IS FINE if anyone wants to go back to a low carb plan. keto is a low carb plan with just a name :slight_smile: one can go back to caveman plan, paleo plan, and more and pick and choose very carefully what works with their bodies and what works against it.

like you said, if you like XYZ and want it back for convenience to make a meal and your body does well on it, like some green beans or whatever then yes, do just that. We must always make a ‘long term full on eating and happy’ plan for our bodies but you said one key thing, add back 1 thing at a time very very slowly. See your reactions cause if that one thing ya want back nails ya, then pick another to focus on and test it out.

ZC is a tough plan that ‘while works well for all’ not everyone can hold it long term either. Carnivore full on is for those of us WHO NEED it and truly want the benefits OFF the low level plant toxins and processed junk that make us sicky and icky and not 100% best we can be. So zero carb has truly saved me but in the end, not everyone ‘needs’ to be here.

I know there are plants I can eat. I know that easily cause I tried it and did fine on them but them my mind went further into the ‘what good is a mushroom to me?’ in full truth against my lifestyle? Very personal those questions to each of us. I can eat them fine but when I read up on them they are mold, fungus, parasitic type fungus and I think, they will take more than they give…so I opted in a very personal decision to drop what my body can handle. I just eat more meat and no mushrooms LOL but thru the years my mind is now that ya know…but newer people on plan have options definitely, but like you said, go slow on re-introduction cause if your health and well being and vibrancy of life with good energy is key to you, then you add back ONLY what never takes anything from you.

I liked your post VE! shows options but shows how to walk into a life one up with foods from the ultimate elimination menu like zc.
It is a reset to health ya know…what you add back is very personal to us and that is key to put focus and knowledge on adding back for us.

If you are wondering about my thoughts on microbiome and enzymes, that’s why I qualified those statements with “I believe.” It’s just info I’ve accumulated over the years listening to podcasts and reading, so no citations.

Carnivore is extreme. If it makes no difference, I figure why be so extreme? I would most likely move back to carnivore adjacent. But, I’ve still got almost four months of trial to go. Not making any assumptions to the benefits or lack there of, yet.

oh that is cool LOL I thought you copied something from what someone else said but I agree with you on what you did say :slight_smile:

I think ya hit the nail on the head cause as we ‘clean the body’ and function from ‘reset and it all it entails physically to us’ what we do add back will matter a boatload on our individual bodies.

So yea I like what ya posted and am cool with it but it read like someone said that and I was wondering on that…neato

and that is the key to the whole thing. IF ONE can walk into other foods they want and enjoy they should if they want that, but many of us can’t but again that is where the ‘big old what can you eat and how can you make it a full on lifestyle ya love long term’ and we all have to find that thru very truthful facts about each of us. If each of us land on an all in and healthy vibrant energized life eating plan, darn we got it made in the shade LOL

I should not have eaten that extra bit yesterday. I really wasn’t hungry, but wanted to eat it. I woke up so sick in the middle of the night, really nauseous. Finally :face_vomiting: to make myself feel better and it did make me feel better. I still have a lot of mental work to get through to better listen to my body. It’s a lot better than it used to be, but I see I still have a long way to go. Today, I have no clock. I will eat if and when I truly need to eat. Tomorrow we make the 2 hour drive to the Brazilian steakhouse to celebrate our adult adopted son’s birthday lol. He’s not our child, adopted or not, but that is our joke. He’s our dear friend, but is closer to our kids’ ages than our own.

what’da ya think got you? no telling on that cause if it was fast after eating was was your food, or some illness? or who knows but HOPE you are all in with the Brazilian! OHHHH I envy you that restaurant and very cool ya love a friend enough to say son…cool…hope you get better fast now!

oh yea that salty fatty meat got ya…yes I get that.
when I do ‘chuck roast’ and eat a good bit it ‘does something to me’ and I can’t put a finger on it but my beloved chuck I do eat, I WATCH me on it LOL

@Ketodaisy ugh. You poor thing. I have been there and it does feel much better out than in. For me, it is also the really fatty cuts of meat. If I don’t stop the instant I think I should, it ain’t pretty. Hasn’t happened since zc but has happened a few times over the previous 2 years keto. Brazillian steak house- am so jealous! I want a bite by bite report when you get back.

It’s 330am here, had some broth an hour or so and just contemplating breakfast when I get home at 8am. Hmmmm ground beef with cream cheese or egg loaf fried up with some butter and Greek yoghurt. Decisions, decisions :laughing:

Haha yes, why not?!
Am continuing to slim back down unbelievably quickly, so why not have a 2 course breakfast, am sure I will hibernate until dinner time super well with a fully belly.
It’s weird, at night I haaaate going to bed feeling full, when I am in my work week though nothing feels better than a feast at 8-9am and then tucking into bed for the day.

Thank you Fangs :smile: It was so amazing to leave that restaurant feeling NOT bloated! It was so worth skipping the carbs :100: Howeverrr I might have drank too much coffee because I had a bit of trouble falling asleep last night AND I had to get up early :expressionless: Oh well. At least I dropped the Diet Coke! Next time I’ll probably ask for some milk OR tea, and hold off on the coffee :coffee: :laughing:

I was still hungry a little while later so I ate another piece of brisket and some garlic bread cheese. Have you guys ever tried that? It’s like halloumi but with cows milk. It will probably kill my stomach LOL

I got about three quarters of the way through the NY strip steak and the off switch was flipped.

It is still an enjoyable surprise to hit satiety like that.

It was a 782g steak. (1.72lb). The fillet steaks I usually eat are about 300g. So, upon reflection I was attempting a 2 to 3 steak meal.

It makes me think of what @Fangs says about eating to satiety and learning how to recognise signals. Always warning us of undereating, especially if we have grasped the idea of eating well for health and not eating less to try to lose body weight.

I’ll have the leftovers for breakfast at lunch. And some eggs.

yea I hear ya, never heard of garlic bread cheese but it does sound like it might not set well LOL but it sounds darn delish!

@FrankoBear, I am so glad you ate so much of your steak. Feels good to just eat til full and that switch turns off. 1.72 lber and almost got thru all of it LOL Love it.

Yea for such a big majority of the zc people, the more you eat the more lbs you lose. the lower you eat the more it opens you up to possible cravings, feeling more tired and alot of things. We zc people need that fullness that equals real satiaty. And when we start zc we eat alot more but over time it truly throttles back a bit and we find ourselves in a very normal eating pattern that suits us best and we thrive on just that.

I hope your work stress slows down for ya FB! Stuff like that in our lives just can throw us off and I sure hate that feeling and I know you do too but ya got a great ocean and a great dog to go chillax at the beach :slight_smile: ocean that stress away LOL

food yesterday was

some taylor ham
cheeseburger patty
2 giant country style pork spare ribs

Made 4 but could only eat 2. Fat content is so high and they are big that 2 is all my belly can hold LOL Will eat other 2 later today.

I hit a fab sale on them. Down to $1.49/lb and geez I bought a good number of big packs for freezer. That price, heck yea but I wish my body ‘loved pork’ more than it does.

I was a pork lover when I started zc years ago, then I dropped it for a good while, ate some chops again but then gave it up again…now I am eating it again LOL

I just don’t do as well on pork meals as I do beef meals but I have to say being so darn easy on the wallet ya know vs the beef prices I am going to add more pork into my life and see how I fare longer term thru doing that. But in the end I best keep my eyes open for all very low sale prices on my beef steaks!!!

Feel wonderful. Sleeping great. Full of energy and all things zc good for me. Now I want my stupid scale to SHOW me a 1/2 lb drop LOL yes I have been waiting for it, it better give it to me HAHA oh well, I can wait, what else I got to do but eat and wait :wink: :sunny: Nice tho that clothes are looser and I am still getting into smaller shirts in my closet so that is a monster plus for sure!

Great that you are feeling super well Fangs. Nothing like good sleep.

I just broke my own ‘rule’ of not eating on night shift. Felt very dizzy and lethargic so had a midnight feast of tuna, cheese and butter as that’s what I could get my hands on. Now I am just tired, but head spinning seems to have eased thank goodness.

sorry ya got that way. I had that before when I didn’t eat so good or couldn’t get my hands on food and it stinks!!

no rule about eating on night shift for work right? is that ‘your own rule’? cause if so you bring food with ya ‘just in case’ cause a few burgers to grab or whatever will make a world of difference if you get hit like that again.

It is like our energy stores to from 100 to 0 in a flash. I was on a car trip, ate 2 sausage patties and thought good to go and like 2 or so hrs into the drive I got so woozey and icky and hell it scared me. Told hubby to stop at next big grocery store and I bought me a rotisserie chicken…yea, me picking and gnawing on a whole chicken driving down the road on a trip LOL Hey that chicken saved me fast LOL
