I have being trying to do the Keto diet since the middle of December - 2 months now. I have not lost any weight or inches yet, so I am concluding that I either am not doing something correctly, or the diet is not ideal/suitable/best for me, or my female, menopausal, hypothyroid, dairy-allergic body, or it is resistant to shedding pounds or inches because it thinks it’s going to starve, or maybe I am lipid resistant from eating low carb for too many previous years already.
I was tracking everything at the beginning to get a feel for macro counts, and now am mostly estimating. If I am having carbs, it is in starchy veggies, but I would say if not under 20 grams a day, then under 50 grams for sure. Can I still benefit results in health and weight under 50 grams of carbs, even if it takes longer?
No weight loss or inch loss yet
Weight is lost on a ketogenic diet by reducing your insulin load as it’s insulin that blocks fat loss. Things that increase insulin load: carbohydrates, eating too often, some artificial sweeteners in some people.
If you have body fat and you cannot burn it, then your insulin is too high. To lower it, reduce your carbohydrates to incidental carbs from nuts, eggs, leafy green vegetables. That will reduce the glucose in your blood stream and reduce your body’s need to produce high insulin. Some people can tolerate higher carb counts but since you are not losing weight I’m going to guess you are not one of those folks right now.
Eat within a time window. You can eat three times a day if you like but never snack. Every time you eat, your insulin goes up. The shorter the eating window, though, the more time your insulin has a chance to lower and allow access to body fat so two times a day is even more ideal.
Sometimes you just have to keep at it and allow your body to heal before it is able to start burning fat. Judge by how you feel for now.
I agree with what Liz said but I’d also like to add that if primary goal is weight loss, it is important to be counting macros daily. There are hidden carbs in a lot of foods, so it is important to not go over 20g of carbs a day. By doing this, you achieve ketosis and becoming fat adapted.
From my understanding, 50g of carbs is what a lot of people do to “maintain” their current weight. That is most likely the reason you haven’t seen or felt a difference in your weight yet.
The key is low insulin level. No sugar, no grains, lots of pork belly…FTW!
