No weight loss... HELP!

#1

Hi! I’m currently about 20lbs overweight. Diagnosed PCOS. Been “low carb”, not high fat for years. Been eating strict keto for a couple weeks…10% carbs, 75% fat, 15% protein. I make healthy food choices. I do have heavy cream in my coffee and have tried to cut down cheese in case that was hindering progress. I’ve been blood testing ketones and get readings between 0.5 and 1.6 usually. I haven’t lost a POUND! Am I doing something wrong? HELP!

Not necessarily, but we would need more info. Height, weight, sex, age and typical daily meals.

But with only 20 pounds to lose, it’s going to come off slow. And there could be other issues your body is addressing first. However there’s typically an initial water weight loss for most, so give us some more info and maybe the Keto wizards here can help spot something.

@Nurserocka at 10% carbs are you eating less than 20g? The normal macros for keto are 5% carbs, 75% fat, 20% protein. Personally I do 5%c, 80%f, 15%p.

I am 37, female, 5’9", 173lbs. I usually drink coffee with heavy cream, lunch around 1pm will be something like salad with avocado, dressing, etc. Dinner is a something like chicken thighs with skin and broccoli cooked in butter. I sometimes have a fat bomb after dinner. I usually drink two vodka sodas at dinner time. Thanks for your help!

How many calories is that? It sounds a bit low.

I’d try cutting out the vodka sodas for a week, just as an experiment. Technically they’re zero carb (assuming you’re using a zero calorie fizzy) but alcohol (and artificial sweeteners if this is a diet soda and not selzer) affects some peoples’ metabolism.

What do you mean by this? What are you eating?

Don’t forget it may take time for keto (ie high fat) to fix your body/metabolism, which will be its priority. Give the process time.

My calories usually work out to around 1500.

You are way low if that is a normal day, if you came from low fat low carb and ate like that you are going to have to get things in order first which will take a bit of time. Some one your size should be in the 1900 calorie range, depending upon your level of activity. Don’t cut calories, your body will hold on to fat if you cut calories. You want to eat a lot of fat, its going to be hard at first if you have not done it for some time. I encourage people who are new to eat to there macro level every day, in particular making sure you get the fat in. This helps you understand the amount of intake you really need. Once your body has enough energy and your ketones are starting to get up there you will gain extra energy, and start to fix more problems.

Dump the vodka, at your stage its just holding you up, and probably making matters worse. When you drink alcohol your liver needs to take care of that first and then it can resume working on being keto. You will never make it to keto adaption if you drink every day.
