Hi all! I am going on a trip for a week. This is my first trip on Keto. Any suggestions on quick and simple foods to eat? I will have access to a stove and fridge but prefer to keep cooking to absolute minimum.
Thanks in advance!!
No-cook food for trip
@Suzanneb Jimmy John’s, 5 guys, In and Out all make their sandwich /burgers without bread as an option. Salads and add a side of guacamole. Nuts in baggies are handy. Cheese sticks. I also have a keto balanced shake that I love. I will be traveling soon also, and have been thinking through strategies.
Some great ideas, thank you! I never even thought of cheese sticks. What kind of shake do you drink? I can’t do sweeteners of any kind.
Thanks!
I headed on a 1500 + road trip to a family reunion. I’m thinking most of that will be fasting for me, except for the reunion itself. Does anybody know if the pork rind waffles can be frozen?
One thing that’s nice is I truly feel less hunger - and when I do, it isn’t the “OH MY WORD I HAVE TO EAT NOW OR DIE!” carb driven hunger. The shake I use does have stevia in it. I will send you a message, because I don’t know if it is allowed to mention a product on here.
In the past, I’ve done intermittent fasting coupled with awesome steakhouse meals. Other times I’ve mixed up Keto Chow in my hotel room in blender bottles, refrigerated it overnight and transferred it to HydroFlask insulated containers in the morning - those will last over 18 hours and still stay cold.
We switched our biggest meal to breakfast. Easiest to get the higher fat meals at restaurants/hotels.
Stay away from most Asian restaurants. There’s sugar in just about everything.
Restaurants don’t always have real butter or real olive oil.
Search for smoke houses or meat markets in the area. We found the BEST BBQ ribs in Quincy Il (& we live in Memphis). Also found Dietrichs Smoke house in Pennsylvania. (Lard, bacon, cheeses,…)
MCT oil in an eye dropper bottle.
Ghee in half pint mason jars. (No refrigeration)
Apple cider vinegar for salads if you can’t get to a grocery store.
Snacks in the car:
Pork rinds (I just started dipping it in ghee. OMG, like buttered popcorn) it’s too messy though for the car.
Nuts
Cucumbers, celery
Olives
Cheese & fat bombs if you can keep them refrigerated.
Summer sausage or salami
They can all top a salad too.
And assume you’re not going to be perfectly Keto.
Hope this helps.
Sorry folks about the bold text. I can’t seem to edit it out.
Yes it does! I have summer sausage in my freezer but never would have thought to take it on trip. Thanks for suggestions!
Hubby likes his beef jerky. But most have some sugar.
Trader Joes has 1oz packets of coconut oil.
The short version is: Keto Chow is a dry powder that you mix with heavy cream to make a full-on ketogenic meal replacement. Not just a 200 calorie “snack” with a tiny bit of fat & mostly protein; but a for realsies meal with 1/3 your daily requirements of potassium, magnesium, vitamins, fat, protein and more. You can replace 1, 2 or even 3 meals a day for as long as you’d like - not the cool meals with family but the stupid ones where you just need fuel. I usually do it for breakfast and lunch at work, I’m making some pulled beef for dinner in the crock pot.
Anyhow, the recipe for making it can be found on my blog: https://www.ketochow.xyz/keto-chow-recipe/
That’s an easy one: just use unsweetened protein in the recipe! Another thing you could try that I’m actually working on is using savory flavors instead of sweet. I have some bacon cheddar, some beef & chicken stew flavors coming that I’m anxious to test out. Next round I’m going to try clam chowder flavor too. If you go that route you could opt for egg, chicken, or beef protein powder.
I am going on a camping trip and I was curious what people take that is Keto friendly. I found that Brie and Cheddar are shelf stable if it’s not too hot. Summer sausage and chorizo don’t need refrigeration. Tuna and mayo is also a good one. Pork rinds are a good snack. Coconut oil, eggs, and butter do fairly well. Nuts of course and I’ll have to look into dried berries. Obviously if you have a cooler your options increase but I’m thinking of more like a weekend backpacking trip.
