Been waiting for this day! My first post!

Got my first blood test results back today and the news is great! Been keto since the last week of December 2017. Started out at 250 and now weigh around 225 (and down 2 inches in pants size to boot!). But I did not start for the weight loss, I started because of my blood sugar - my markers were terrible, the worst they’d ever been. I decided to do something different and I chose Keto and here’s what ELSE I have to show for it after 3+ months:

Triglycerides down from 640 to 227!
Fasting Glucose down from 183 to 123!
HbA1c down from 7.3 to 5.6!
HDL up from 29 to 37!
LDL was unmeasurable last test (because of the high tri) but was 85
Total cholesterol didn’t move much - went from 161 to 167

Best numbers in over 2 years

I had already decided to never go back to the Standard American Diet, these results CEMENT it!

Keep Calm and Keto On my friends!

That’s great, MIke! From what I understand, results just keep improving and can be wonky at 3 months, but yours are huuuuugely improved! That’s really quite astonishing. I’m scared to get mine done but I’m going to wait six months and then see. You give me good hope

Yes, I was actually quite worried that my results would be wonky - like high LDL or still high glucose. So relieved!

Congratulations!!!

congratulations

good achievment but there is still work to be done

your tg/hdl ratio still high (mine also high )

your hdl very low (close to mine ) which is the reason for the high tg/hdl ratio

I have been reading about the best way to increase the hdl.

while the omega 3 is the best route for increasing the hdl many sites doubt the quality of the fish oil supplements on the market.

so I am focusing on laxseed and chia seeds for the time being.

the doctor refused to test before at least 4 months from the last test because he said there is no need for the test.

Thanks Omar - indeed more work to come! As I said, I’m not planning to ever go back to my old way of eating. I expect my next results will be better - thanks for suggesting some ways I might get my HDL up!

That is so awesome! What wonderful results in such a short time! Did your doc ask you what you were doing? I mean, they must have been impressed, right???

My doc didn’t do a lipid panel on me at 3 mos, but did do an A1C and I went from 7.1 down to 6.2! Now down 28 lbs, but 14 of them were lost in 3 months. The other 14 were from when I simply went gluten free 6 months prior to that!

I was quite pleasantly surprised as well, I expected favorable results but these surpassed my expectations.

My doc was aware of my keto diet for about 2 months prior to these tests… While he supports my diet choice, I can’t say he’s an advocate of it or even very knowledgeable on the subject as I simply only spend 5 minutes talking to him every 4 months or so (yeah, American health care, don’t ya love it?)

I get lipid panels every 4 months just due to meds that I’m on now (and hope to wean myself off of as I progress). I have disagreen with him on testing (such as last visit I requested a fasting insulin test, but he deemed it unnecessary - in a way he’s right since what I’m doing will correct insulin levels if they are a problem - was mainly just curious so didn’t really push for it too hard)
