I just joined and though I’ve been low carb for 1 1/2 years via No Sugar No grains. It worked for me lost 20 lbs and improved my health markers but I’ve been stalled out for months which was fine but the creeping weight gain was not, so I decided to step up to keto.

The NSNG philosophy is great but sweeteners of any kind are highly discouraged yet a little indulgence with sugar are not. This was tough because I would either over indulge and feel terrible, binge or worse trigger a migraine.

I’ve been Keto for a week, tracking my macros on MFP and realizing I wasn’t as low carb as I thought. I tried swerve for first time and it did not make me want to binge in fact I feel like it suppressed my appetite. I ordered my ketone blood monitor and I’m really excited to start checking my ketone levels and see where Keto will take me.

I’m also hoping to convert my 6 & 8 year old over to low carb - especially my super picky 8 year old daughter who happened to be diagnosed with epilepsy this year. I know about the benefits of Keto on kids with epilepsy- thankfully it’s well controlled with meds but we’d like her to stop taking them within the year. Making Keto treats is really more for them than me and so far they so good.

PS- the fathead thread totally blew my mind

Welcome to the forums!

Is your daughter’s doctor on board with switching her to a ketogenic diet and stopping the medication? The protocol for epileptic children is a bit different of what we normally do so make sure to get a physician to assist her.

I also have 2 kids (4yo and 1yo) and although they still have carbs, we limit the sugar the maximum we can. Every time I blow the breathalyzer my daughter asks to do it too and she is in ketosis about half the time she tests.

Good luck on your journey.

No plans to stop the medication until next March - her neurologist wants her on for a year before we go without. Her seizures are well controlled and no side effects that I can tell, but I rather she not take meds long run. At this point she would definitely not be on board with going full blown keto so I do my best to seriously limit her sugar and carb intake. I just want her to be as low carb as possible by the time her neurologist sees fit to take her off her meds so that hopefully she won’t have to continue taking them.
