Hi everyone,I am here for a bit of support.i started the gym 1 month ago and have been practising IF and keto with a 16:8.
Never knew if I entered keto or not as I’ve only now got the blood testing strips for meter.
I have a glucoŕx hct meter.
Well it’s now been a month of regular gymming and IF and keto, weight hasn’t changed much but waist smaller and I feel flatter.muscles growing.
Now, I used the meter after 16hrs water fasting and ketones were LO ( no number.(under 0.05]) and glucose 5.5.
This morning at 40 hours in ,my ketones reading was .3 and glucose 5.1.
Big question .am I ever going to get there?
Newbie fasting..no ketones in sight
Currently about 44 hrs of total fasting…no food at all.only Acv, water and morning black coffee.
You say you’ve been ‘keto’ for a month, but I don’t know what you mean by: “started the gym 1 month ago and have been practising IF and keto”. As @Janie asks, how many carbs have you been eating during that time? What else have you been eating?
If you have been eating sub-20 grams of carbs per day for a month and you are still conscious and functioning, you are in ketosis. You said “This morning at 40 hours in my ketones reading was .3”. Is that mmol/L? If not what? It is not ‘no ketones in sight’.
You have detectable ketones and that indicates ketosis. What do you expect? Why do you expect it? All that matters at this point is you are in ketosis. Period. The number on the meter is next to meaningless. Numerous factors affect the number you see on the meter so don’t worry about it.
Just to see what happens, I’d cut the vinegar and coffee. Go with plain water for another day or two.
Dont worry about it, i’m the same, hardly ever show ketones, ( been doing keto for 18 months ) and am also a bodybuilder. I’ve been told many times that athletic / bodybuilding types are a mix of - almost fully burning ketones at point blank range or directly burning fat without much conversion to ketones. I honestly don’t know, other than my waist size crashed 12" and muscle sizes increased.
