I am only 2 weeks in and new to the forum. My son has been a keto-er for over a year. He was 28 and needed a lifestyle change food-wise. He has lost 90 pounds and will probably be a lifer on keto. He has been a great inspiration to me and now my greatest champion.
I did a lot of research the last 6 months before diving in and making the commitment. So far I have learned more about my body than ever before while adjusting the foods and supplements to get me where I need to be. I obviously would like to lose some weight (5 lbs so far), but being healthier is more my goal.
The forum has been so informational and helpful. I haven’t seen many posts including restless leg syndrome. I have had this for many years and take Mirapex twice a day for it. First week of keto I got very little sleep due to the restless leg being worse, and found that magnesium supplements helped immensely and then found magnesium oil, which has been a life saver. Of course then too much magnesium caused some uncomfortable side effects. Just curious about anyone else with restless leg syndrome and their experiences.

I haven’t taken anything for my restless legs in a few years and cutting back on stimulants helped a lot but I still had some episodes until I started Keto this summer. Since June I’ve only had one night where I had an RLS episode. That was during a 5 day fast and I let my electrolytes slip that day. So I’ve not noticed any issues with it as long as electrolytes are taken care of.
I would assume that during the first few weeks of adapting to the changes anything is possible in regards to symptoms of previous conditions and many will work yhe.selves out over time.

I haven’t had any restless leg but have had sciatica in just about all its forms, and I’ll just say that nerves and neurotransmitters are very slow to change!

Please trust in the biochemistry. As your blood glucose recovers to a nice good low level, the neurotransmitters will also sort themselves out.

You’ll also want to keep your sodium intake up. This early in your keto journey is a critical time since your kidneys are reacting to the lower insulin by dumping water and sodium. I still cramp and still keep some buillion at work and home. Magnesium, Calcium, Potassium will work themselves out with some meat and sun and some cruciferous veggies.

I came looking for this because up until very recently (two weeks) i’ve had RLS very, very bad. Daytime, nightime, anytime was teatime for RLS lady. Two things I’ve discovered about myself that might help someone else because Magnesium only helped a little and eventually nothing helped. So… what I learned: First: Coffee triggered the RSL all day and through the next day if I had one cup at brekki. Second: Green powder. It’s made up of all sorts of algae, seeweed, spinach, etc, and mine has 0.02g of carbs. I have that before my OMAD, wether that’s lunch or dinner, together with my water flavoring which is basically made of sodium (0 calories, 0 sugar, 0 cars). Hey presto - sorted. I hope this helps someone out there.
