New Year Keto/Fasting Strategies

#1

Has anyone else started plotting out strategies for the New Year, things you’re planning to tweak or try? I’ve decided to switch fasting protocols monthly to keep my body guessing and because it’s mentally stimulating, lol.
For January I plan to fast on weekdays. I think in February I’ll go back to alternate day fasting on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Maybe in March I’ll try 3 days fasting and 4 days feasting each week (or vice versa). I love that I’m trying to eat as much as possible on feasting days (because of the amazing suppressing effect fasting has on my appetite, and also to keep my BMR up), as opposed to worrying about eating too much if I eat every day. I think I currently eat a good balance of keto foods and my macros are consistenly on point, so probably won’t change much in that department for now.

Would love to hear everyone else’s plans.

I love to read your post because they mirror my thoughts. The strategy of mixing up your fasting is exactly what I plan for 2018. I’m also going to strive to add new ways to add more fat to my diet. I still fall short on SOME days. Thank you for this post!

Thanks @rustyk61! Great minds think alike. I so appreciate you and the other regulars in this forum. This is by far my favorite keto resource. By the way, I love jalapenos (and other hot peppers too), so your food pics always look delish.

I would like to start making some measurable progress…so for me it’s adding a monthly EF and only enjoying the occasional cocktail.

On January 7th we are starting a 10 day fast. This is so we can enjoy the holidays up to the weekend of the Epiphany which many families celebrate and others just get together with extended families of step dads or the extra set of grandparents. So that SUnday evening we start a 10 day fast.
I set this goal after my repair and heal fast from the Thanksgiving Weekend.
This will be similar. AND easier. Fasting in January should not bring the challenges that other fats do as our co-workers and families will all be “dieting” to lose those holiday pounds. No One will question our food choices as they will be too obsessed with calorie restriction! Sucks to be them!

After that feast I am going into an OMAD for 7-10 days. AFter that 1-2 weeks of strict keto eating whenever, all day long if I am hungry.

The measurements and scale will determine strategy after that. The 2 weeks of keto normalize all my work and I have a good place to work from again. As I have another Dexa in Mid February I will need at least a week of keto eating prior to that.

Good plan. I’m going straight into a short EF after the holidays. I think you’re right that January will be a good month since everyone will be working on New Year’s resolutions.

This. :slightly_smiling_face: And really, it will be a relief. Will definitely be ready then.

For the New Year - will be working on being strictly keto. I really cannot get around this, despite old habits and mental shenanigans to the contrary.

I found after a few weeks of strict keto I was far better off metally in meeting the challenging stuff. Currently, this seasonal eating has not been too bad. I did have some praline pecans and a pecan cookie that just looked worth the decadence. I tested 2 hours after each stumble and found 1.0 and 1.6 on ketones. “HMMMM” I thought “self, you could have a few more samples spaced out over time and likely do NOOOOO damage” but instead I got a pat of butter out, salted it and ketoed on.

Mark, that makes sense. I need to put in the time, there.

That’s another goal for me too. In January, strict keto on feast days, no excuses, no indulgence days for the month. I want to see what progress looks like in an ideal month.

Good job talking down the carb goblin. That is not easy.

Right on, Nin - I thought of this too. I don’t think I’ve ever even gone two weeks strictly Keto…
