New to the forum but not new to keto

Greetings all!

Been a big fan of Dr. Sten Ekberg for a couple of years now and taken some of the good advice on board and seen an improvement in my health!

But there is always more to know and I have so many questions to ask. Shame there is not a lot of good advice on the internet about all this

So hoping this forum will be one of them

Is that right?
If there is any info you choose to share, sure helps us make suggestions.

Thanks!
Yer thats right lost a lot of weight, last time I bothered to check I was 11 3/4 stone.
But that was after a one week fast and now I work in construction until just of late as I am sick with a bad arm and neck! Cant seem to put any weight back on when eating keto type food once a day or ever other day

My Mum and Dad are in full panick mode! as they have never seen me as skinny as this ever, ever, ever! (But they are very woke these days! and in full tune with the govs official version of how the world is, so in this relm of things its you must eat 3 meals a day and plenty of carbs to stay healthy, all of which is complete BS BTW!

Age 42, height 5" 8"
At one time I was 19 stone

Don’t think of a Keto / Carnivore diet as a weight loss diet, it’s more a weight normalisation diet.
And re the arm and neck, meat is not only nutrient dense for healing but it’s also the least inflammatory thing you can eat.
I tend to eat when hungry, that usually means twice a day but can be 3 or could be once.
In the absence of carbs your body knows what to do

I did not do it because i wanted to loose weight. I did it coz by accident I stumbled over Dr.Sten Ekberg work when I was researching how to speed up digestion and found he had a lot of good solutions like turmeric and other spices. Where my GP Doctor told me to avoid spices if you have an upset stomach, now we know my GP Dr was wrong! so I kind of followed Dr S.E work there on after

Regarding hunger; you should really push your self as long as you can and you will build up insulin sensitivity and other amazing benefits

The keto diet I know of consists of about 5% carbs made up from leafy green vegtable

So you think meat heals mussel issues then?

I’m looking for help also. My concern is pre-diabetes. I’ve cut almost all carbs since February this year, but my A1C today was 6.1 – higher than it has ever been. I’m a 74M, 5’ 10", 158 lbs., always been average to thin.

I had homemade beef & onion soup tonight with a bone broth base. Checked 1.5 hours later, BG was 89, which is typical. When I eat out and I can’t avoid carbs, even then it’s usually only 100-120 or so.

Since February when a lab test showed 5.9 A1C, I ditched nearly all carbs, eating carnivore mostly for supper, and by May it was 5.3, home test. It stayed there or a few tenths higher, had another lab test in August it was 5.6, another lab a week ago it was back up to 5.9, and the 6.1 home test tonight. I never eat breakfast or anything at all before noon, so I’ve had daily 12-14 hour fasts for decades.

Not sure why after 10 months of very low carbs it’s higher now than ever. Dr. Ken Berry has noted that poor sleep can raise BG, but I’ve had insomnia for around 35 years so that is more or less a constant for me. I’ve not found any T2D forums that focus on no/low carbs – all I’ve seen are the standard “eat complex carbs, brown rice, fruit,” etc. Are there any in existence?

There is a possibility. A1C measures the percentage of red blood cells that have glucose attached to their hemoglobin. It is predicated on your red blood cells living a precise # of days. A healthy (clean keto or carnivore) diet can extend their lifespan. When that happens, that additional time gives glucose more chances to attach. So ironically, healthier, longer lived rbcs can create a worse A1C score. In order to know for sure you’d have to get the average age of your rbcs tested.

I lost too much weight at one point so I added an extra meal or two, (of the right foods, of course). I slowly gained back to a healthier weight.
Try adding meals, and less fasting.

(Robin) #10

Yes, there are. I’m sure some members with that info will join in soon.

Of course the right weight is a personal decision, but according to the charts, 11-12 stone is healthy for your height. Do you feel sickly or weak, or just missin’ the beefier you?

#12

As far as i have seen, less meals per day will increse insulin sensitivity

#13

Yes; I know that eating more carbs and more feeding windows per day is a good way to put weight on. Which I WILL NOT be doing!

#14

those charts are nothing but nonsense! that would make every full blown body builder look obese

(Robin) #15

I did not add carbs. Always been below 20g a day. Been almost 5 years now.

Eat more dense, less satiating food then… I don’t find it hard to simply add 100g fat when I am already satiated but of course, some people DO need to add meals and maybe carbs too… But carbs aren’t needed for many of us, I can just eat fat as it doesn’t oversatiate me. But I see no problem in animal sugars so I can just eat dairy or more eggs than usual. I even have meat among my not well satiating but easy to eat items! Maybe you can find something you can eat to add calories.
And adding meals doesn’t mean necessarily enlarging your eating window… I don’t find it natural to just eat between meals without an immediate need or desire (a lovely tempting treat may help with desire though) but as I naturally tend to overeat, it’s good that is the case. Actually, when I have too tiny meals, I always get hungry frequently so the problem gets solved without my conscious effort (even though I would be happy to have low-cal days. but I almost never get them).

One doesn’t need hunger or appetite to eat. If you need to eat more, eat more. You probably have a few options how to do it. If your current style can’t help, you need to change it.

Yes, I’ve heard of that before, thanks. I’ll have to dig around. FWIW:

When I started keto/carn in Feb, weight was around 165-68. In 2-3 months it dropped to 152, stayed there for a few months then started to rise again, up to 160-162.

Now, in the past month or so it has dropped again to around 153-155. So the diet is certainly affecting my metabolism, maybe it’s still not settled in thus the A1C numbers.
