New to fasting... Gas bubble?

Hi! I’m currently into my longest fast yet, just crossed the 30 hour mark. Water all day and 1 coffee this morning and 1 yesterday morning. I’m wondering if I need to eat even though I’m not hungry? I am having very discomforting gas pain within the last two hours? Is this normal? I did use the search tool, but didn’t really hone in on anything. Thanks in advance

All I have to offer is never trust a fasting fart! Seriously. When I fast my insides tend to liquefy. I hope you get some relief & it’s not a disaster pants situation.

Continue fasting, normal, you are just crossing the timeline of your liver being empty of stores. Try to Fast a full four days or more.

I wish I had seen your reply in a timelier fashion, I got nervous with the pain from the gas…I’m going to do some more research so I’m better prepared for what my body might do…ugh

I did fast for 34 hours, that’s my longest!

I’m on 60 hours but the last 18 have been horrendous with constant burping and hiccups.
Belly bloated until started forcing burps. Never had an issue on previous 5 day fasts. Can’t afford another sleepless night and I feel like a punch bag, so may have to break it.difficult to find any references on the web even though there should be many ‘experts’

Hmmmm, so I have come to keto via fasting. I have fasted 3-4 times per year over the last 10 years.

In fasting circles (we go up to 6 or 8 weeks fasting, tho my longest fast was 3 and a half weeks) it’s a golden rule to use a (fasting friendly) laxative before fasting.

Because new food isn’t pushing old food along in your gut and more importantly because fasting “shuts down” your digestive system, there should not be any undigested food left in your intestines. It’s asking for trouble.

I don’t think this applies to IF like one-day fasts so much - it’s more crucial for the long fasts of a week or more.

But if you’re experiencing problems with it, I’d definitely try a laxative.

In fasting circles, using a laxative to empty your gut is also considered essential to stop feelings of hunger. Because only once your intestines are entirely empty can your digestive tract shut down completely, including your stomach, which then tends not to send anymore hunger signals.

Is this something that’s discussed on this forum at all? I see tons of fasting posts, but never a mention of emptying your bowels beforehand.

As an avid faster it really suprises me to not see it mentioned!

I have used a yoga style shankhaprakshalan - “washing of the conch” before extended fasts. No chemicals, just 2-3 quarts of 0.9% saline at body temperature. Make sure you are home and near the toilet :grinning:. I also weigh myself before and after till the weight is back to start point - then I know the saline is all through
