New To All Of This - Is this normal?

(Katie) #1

Well hello, I am very very very new to this whole Keto diet, lifestyle change and on day Four. So far I have no appetite to eat my meal preps (This week is; Lunch: Chicken salad (flavcity recipe) on cloud bread. Dinner: Chicken breast with mozzarella slice and bacon inside (stuffed) side of cauliflower rice and broccoli) and wondering if this is normal. Right now for my lunch at work I am just picking and still do not feel that hungry. I’ve been having rushes of energy in the am which is great and feel somewhat tired throughout the day. I hope that is normal. I followed my fitpal macros and so far I am pretty on par but getting those fats up is hard and worrisome since I’ve heard good reviews and somewhat scary ones too. I haven’t started to incorporate much exercise but the basic of walking and have drank so much water I pee literally every 10 mins. So here I am,looking for some advise on if I am doing this right and what I am feeling is totally normal. Thanks for reading my confusing question and looking forward to this journey along with you guys!

Welcome! It’s normal to pee a lot the first week anyway as your body uses up it’s glucose. Drinking plenty of water is great. Be sure to mind your salt intake and get plenty (and electrolytes in general–search for electrolyte and you’ll get lots of info).

I tracked everything in a book I carried around in my purse because I was getting conflicting app v. actual label info. After a while you memorize the carb count of many items and it gets easier to do in your head. Apps are great for tracking other macros and micros.

It’s normal to lose your appetite and generally on this way of eating you won’t be as hungry as you were as a carb eater. A very convenient benefit. Eat when you want and don’t force yourself to, likewise don’t withhold food. Your body is adjusting to a new fuel source (fat/ketones) and may take many weeks to sort it all out.

Your energy levels can ebb and flow and can be helped by getting the correct amount of electrolytes.

Many folks don’t exercise until they are fat adapted which can take weeks.

Feel free to ask as many questions as it takes to help you be successful!

Hello and welcome Katie.

Sounds like you are doing just fine so far. Just don’t worry about geting your fats up as high as your macros suggest as long as you aren’t hungry and as long as you continue to keep carbs under 20.

Sounds right to me. As your body adjusts to burning fat for fuel., there are some kinks to iron out and the transition might take a little while before things smooth out. Just stick with it and keep doing what you are doing.
