  • High-Carbohydrate = (60% carb, 20% fat, 20% protein)
  • Moderate-Carbohydrate = (40% carb, 40% fat, 20% protein)
  • Low-Carbohydrate =(20% carb, 60% fat, 20% protein)

Total energy expenditure was about 250 calories a day greater on the low- compared to the high-carbohydrate diet.

The advantage to metabolism provided by the low-carbohydrate diet was especially large, about 400 calories a day, among those participants with high insulin secretion.

400 calories per day is about 3-4lbs per month, or 36-48lbs per year.
