New, New Years resolutions

(Trudy) #1

This is the second year in my entire adult life where weight loss is not a resolution having managed to maintain my goal weight, give or take, in the last twelve months.

My new New Years resolution is to express gratitude daily. I’m a day early but I’m grateful for the friendship and support of this forum.

Happy 2020! Be kind to one another and keep on supporting this amazing community

:sunglasses: Good for you, Trudy - that’s one heck of an accomplishment. :+1: :star:

(Bob M) #3

That is an accomplishment! Congratulations!

I am still technically “overweight” by BMI (yes, it’s useless), but I’ve been doing this officially 6 years as of 1/1/20. And I’ve reached my lowest weight, had to get new pants and a new winter coat because both of these were oversized.

My New Year’s resolution involves keep chugging along and experimenting in the low carb/keto area. Keep trying to exercise without (re)injuring anything. Learn to play an instrument. Keep reading in this nutrition area. Other than the instrument, these are the same resolutions for the last 6 years, so I should be able to achieve those, anyway.

6 years of healing, amazing. I wish I found the way of living 6 years ago. Congratulations!

It seems like a long time, but I experienced so many benefits, that I could not go back to eating the old ways. I’ll list just one. Before low carb/keto, I was taking two 24-hour allergy pills per day during the allergy seasons. Now, for the last three years, I’ve taken one 24-hour allergy pill per YEAR, and probably did not have to take those. I will periodically eat things like pizza, as I used to love (and still love pizza). But if I eat pizza, I will get chest congestion, asthma, allergies, by the next morning. They’re not huge, but they are different enough I can tell they are there and weren’t there before. So, I am reminded by going off low carb as to what benefits low carb has brought for me.

It’s 2020 here now, so last year I lost over 46kg/100lb and had dozens of NSV’s.
This year I’ll be losing a bit more fat and increasing lean mass and improving overall fitness.
Like Bob I’m classed as overweight and a couple of weeks ago I ate 2kg of food and I guess some extra water along for the ride and that big fat bloke in the pic below went from overweight to obese according to my BMI.
#doctorsaredicks.
ps: that’s me having a cuppa in front of my boat with one of the grand kids.

(Katie) #7

I am grateful for the keto freeze dried foods I have found. I am grateful for the sun everyday to use my solar oven to cook delicious meats. I am grateful for the wonderful advice from this website.

I have no idea if I am at or near my weight goal…no scale. But, I am in size 6 with room to spare. I can put my insulated long johns under my pants and still have spare room, but at least I don’t have to hold my pants up with a jerririgged belt. Can’t keep doing that once the temps begin to warm again.

My goal for the coming year is to teach myself to play the tin whistle

Not a big New Year’s day resolution guy here but it is a good time to reflect. Keto has been good to me over the last 18 months. I want to kick it up a notch and reduce the amount of alcohol I drink to eliminate a little belly fat that I have (my liver will probably thank me for it).

This is also the day I turn another year older and I am starting to see retirement on the horizon. I want the years ahead to be healthy and full of activity to spend with spouse, kids, grand kids and a new hobby of woodworking. Happy New Year!

(Jane) #9

Same here - no weight loss goals, just maintain.

I want to get in as many 72-hr fasts as I can for autophagy and improving my skin tone. At least once a month if it works with my business travel and social commitments.

(Susan) #10

I would never consider you a big fat bloke at all in that picture, and I am sure no one else would either!!

This is a very sweet picture, so endearing. He is a very cute little guy.

Happy New Year =).

(Susan) #11

Happy New Year to all of you lovely people!

My New Year’s Resolution is to keep on being Keto, and hopefully lose a bunch of weight in the process! I am down 57 pounds since February, and still have over 100 more to go, so I just want to stay Keto, and healthy and to see less and less of me over the year =).

+1

Thought about using some type of daily planner or journal ?
Within 10 seconds I realized that’s a commitment of some sort, yikes
Then I’m writing it down even more of a follow through yet another commitment, oh boy

Commitment :flushed:
Just setting my self up for let down
And it’s on paper

I quit already! :joy:

Oh well
Back to the time to reflect
Sigh

(John) #13

My trick with this - write down any BS you want to. I mean any crap at all. Such as your thoughts about the paper that the journal is printed on, or the ink in the pen you are using.

Eventually, your brain will decide to write down something worthwhile. Maybe not today, or next week. But some day. Until then, enjoy writing stupid stuff down. Like whether you liked your eggs scrambled today better than fried yesterday. At the worst, you are practicing your handwriting, on the off chance you actually have some earth-shattering insight. So you’ll be able to read it later.

My journal is full of utter nonsense. But I write in it anyway. I enjoy the writing. Makes me enjoy my journal as an object (I have a nice one) and my pen (a fountain pen - lovely tool). Some day I may go back and read it.

(Troy) #14

Thanks @JohnH
Makes a lot of sense
Good points!!
Write things down like a “brain dump”?
I like that

Maybe I’ll get that started in a penguin planner on a lightning deal I got on amazon
I committed to that at least😄

My new year’s resolution is to simply be kinder to myself. I wigged in and out of keto and also experimented with carnivore which was an epic mess. I am working on healing my gut due to years of inflammation. I got a little cocky these past few months and started coloring outside the lines with adding things back and now I just feel like utter sludge. I’m really struggling with IBS-C no matter what I do but I know adding more fiber is NOT the solution. So I’m working on decompressing, destressing, and decluttering my life. Keeping things simple and if I mess up, just see it as part of the process. I don’t have weight to lose but I definitely did gain a few pounds over the past couple of months. Nothing horrible but enough to make me feel uncomfortable within. I’m trying to make peace with it because it very well may just be the weight that my body is healthiest at even though I’d prefer otherwise…so I am working on quieting my mind while I regroup and get back on track to discover where my body is “healthiest” vs it being so much about weight. Happy New Year, Ya’ll!!

(Marianne) #16

You look fine to me and don’t look the least bit overweight. Sometimes I think the BMI charts are way off.

(Marianne) #17

That is me, too. I just love sipping champagne. I didn’t discover it until five months of totally clean keto. Then we went to a wedding and I discovered brut champagne. Now I have it probably every other day. I don’t know for sure because I don’t weigh myself, but I’d guess I have 15 lbs. more to lose. I believe if I wasn’t drinking the champagne, I’d be at goal weight. I eat totally clean keto except for that.

(David Jones) #18

I have been Keto for 2 yrs now. I have had the help of 3 of my children go on my journey. Now it’s time to help others see the possibilites.

(Shane) #19

I guess it’s like most things aimed at the general public and created with minimal knowledge. It’s probably about right if you are of average build, average height, average weight and average lean/fat ratio.
On the left in this pic is my left arm about the time my BMI said I was obese and on the right a week or so later when my BMI put me 9kg or about 20lb overweight and 17kg more than what a Dr told me I should be.

He’s my best mate and little shadow. His mum is doing stuff for a couple of days, so I’ve got him here now for a few days. Glad I had a better than poor sleep last night.

(Marianne) #20

That’s just crazy. There is such a thing as “too thin.” My husband is thin, fit and in shape. I always encourage him not to get too thin. It doesn’t look good on a man.

You look just right to me.
