New, Ketosis Making Me Thirsty!

#1

Hey all! Been lurking for about 2 months, reading everything I could to prepare me for it , and I have to say THANK YOU for so much info and help already. This site has been great leading me into Keto.

My question is that I have officially been doing Keto and IF for 10 days. I haven’t had the full on flu(a couple symptoms that I have managed to handle easily) and have overall felt pretty good. The one issue I am having trouble with is the extreme thirst over the last two days. I’m guzzling 8-9 bottles of water easily, I know I’m definitely not dehydrated, but I feel like my mouth is as dry as the Sahara.
Any thoughts or advice? I’m starting to feel like my tongue is turning into sandpaper!

Not much advice since it means you are in ketosis, which is what you want. The sensation is something you brain eventually learns to ignore. I used to suck on pink salt crystals and drink water. It helped.

I’ve been dabbing Himalayan salt under my tongue. When you say pink salt crystals do you mean this or is there something larger than those?

(mole person) #4

No, that’s what I meant, I was just too lazy to type “Himalayan”.

Also, any good salt works anyway

At this point I may just go out to the pet store and purchase a salt lick :joy:

If it’s convenient, you’ll do it. So if that works…

For a change of pace, I have smoked salt at my desk that I take from time to time. It is kind of like the bacon of salt.:bacon: :salt::bacon:

Down here, we banned smoking in offices decades ago.

They frown upon that in elementary schools here, too!
Although other things to smoke are much more popular around these parts lately :canada:
The taste reminds me of Hickory Sticks, a carb-laden treat I loved as a kid.

Edit to clarify: The smoked salt tastes like Hickory Sticks…not the other things to smoke. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Welcome

Yes you definitely have to make a conscious effort to drink a lot more water and get a lot more salt.

They recommended soup broths, and because they are obviously and contain sodium.

If you feel weak, tired, dizzy and stock up on salt and water (I don’t mean putting salt in the water by the way).

Besides keeping up the water, I read somewhere that eating celery is good for getting rid of cottonmouth. It makes sense to me since celery is mostly water.

I feel the same. My mouth is really dry as well. I drink the water. I haven’t tried the salt under the tongue but I do use it on my food. The pink one. It’s nice to know that when you are very thirsty that ketosis is working. My problem is constipation. I will have to try and use more oil or pyschillum husks . Any other suggestions?

I hadn’t heard about the celery, but that is worth a try and it does make sense. I may try that tomorrow.

Magnesium supplements really helped me. 250 mg before bed!

I’ll pick some up and give it a shot
