New here but not a newbie to keto

(Jenny May) #1

Hi all! Thought I’d do a quick introductory post…

I’ve been keto since June 2016. I discovered that low carb worked for me when I had gestational Diabetes with my son (born March 2016).

I’ve had a few NSV’s along the way, including converting about half of our family & friends by following our example. My blood pressure is in the normal range for the first time since I can remember, my A1C is perfect. Weight loss to date is around 52kg, from approx AU size 24+ to 14.

Great to be here and looking forward to chatting

24 to 14 … you better buy new clothes.

Welcome! You’ve landed in a great group of folks.

Haha luckily I was one of those people that kept a lot of clothes from when I was this size previously (approx 12 years ago) so I’ve unpacked all of those!
Apart from that, Savers is my best friend… I did a massive shop at their mid year half price sale!!

Welcome!! :tada:

What a fab story-thanks for sharing. I love reading how other people started with Keto and how it’s been for them! I am one of the members who is only just starting (day 5, woop!).

And in your case especially, i love how you were proactive in finding a way to tackle gestational diabetes with your own diet. Can I ask - how did you come across it? Suggested by a doc, a friend, your own research?

All the very best to you and your continuing keto-life!
Xo

Welcome aboard and I need to know how you did this! You have a podcast/YouTube channel I can subscribe to?

I had a sister with GD with her third child, first boy go figure, and went LCHF and was my best buddy during that time. But went back to carbage pretty much immediately after the birth. Bean pole skinny the whole time. Sigh.

52kg and that size drop is fantastic results!

Unfortunately diet alone wasn’t enough to control my GD and I had to be on metformin. It was after my son arrived that I did some more research as I found the lower carb approach to work well, and I had already done some fasting with success the year before so looked into what would give me those results but still be breastfeeding friendly.

I did a few google searches and kept an eye out in “healthy” cooking groups and saw LCHF pop up a few times and researched that. The rest is history

Thank you
No, I haven’t recorded my journey really - I didnt really see it as anything unusual although my husband keeps saying he’s going to nominate me for one of those cheesy TV segments lol (Today tonight if you’re in Australia). It’s just normal life to me, so I didn’t see it as out of the ordinary.

I definitely wanted to look at something for my health after being diagnosed with GD, as you have a 50% chance of developing type 2 diabetes within 10 years after you’ve been diagnosed with GD, and there was no way I was going to let that happen if I could avoid it.

Once I also found out about possible anti cancer benefits I was sold - I had pre-cancerous and cancerous cells removed in 2006 and want to do everything I can to ensure it doesn’t come back.
