New here and wanted to introduce myself

My name is Eric, I just joined this forum a few minutes ago and I thought I’d just jump in by introducing myself.

Long story short, I’m a 300 pound, 53 year old Type II Diabetic and to use a cliche, I am sick and tired of feeling sick and tired.

I don’t need any convincing on the subject of Ketosis mainly because back in the early 80’s I was a patient of Dr. Atkins, so I know first hand that it works and I’ve used it to lose weight several times over the decades. The main problem I have is that I am literally a carbohydrate addict with all the classic addiction behavior patterns and sooner or later I get tired of the diet.

I got my latest wake-up call a few years ago when a routine medical exam showed a blood sugar level of over 400 and my doctor looked at me sympathetically and said; “You must feel terrible”. The wake-up part is that I felt absolutely fine and I realized that I had actually internalized that level of blood sugar as “normal”.

On the recommendation of, oddly enough, my lawyer; I bought Keto Clarity and it occurred to me that there had been refinements in the diet in the last couple of decades, as well as engineered food products available (for convenience) that hadn’t existed before. I even downloaded an app to calculate the fat/protein/carb levels of a meal.

So, I thought I’d find a forum so I could tap into the collective knowledge and experience of others and here I am.

Welcome! I sympathize with you because I am a 59 y/o T2DM; highest weight was 15# shy of 300, but definitely obese.

Totally agree with that sentiment. Going keto has energized me in a way that nothing else has.

My routine blood work showed that I had an A1C of 13.4! My GP and every specialist she sent me to asked me why I wasn’t dead! I had no idea what a 13.4 A1C even meant at that time. I do now and know it’s REALLY NOT GOOD!

Yeah I had a pretty bad carb addiction pre-keto as well. I’m now in my 8th week and I don’t have the carb cravings that I did before. So keto can definitely help with it.

Best of luck on your keto journey!

Mega carb addict here too! 14 months in, and 70 pound down.

I know what you mean about the high sugar. I noticed after eating 2lb of chocolate, and a bundt cake with 4 cups of sugar in it, and I didn’t even feel sick. I remembered being a kid when I ate too many sweets I would barf, or feel awful. I was screwed until I came here. Good luck, and bare in mind, for people like us, this may be our last chance. Seize it, and run with it!
