New and convinced!

So seen a video on Netflix called “ the magic pill” I immediately went out and bought couple of books (one of them a cookbook) on the subject. I started buying clean food and eating according to the macros. I also downloaded an app that tracks the macros so I don’t over do things. I have been doing okay I think. I only went over the 20 net carbs one time and it was by one. But I think that I’m doing it wrong still. I think the need to get rid of the dairy and do some intermittent fasting. ( I’m only getting little ketos on testers)

So after all that babbling I guess, my questions are; if I cut out dairy would the weight fall off faster? And would I finally get in full blown Ketosis? I have a doctors appointment this week and I will find out what my a1c is and was. I have been doing this for three weeks now. So even though I think my a1c should be better to.

Good choice, congrats.
Not everyone needs to cut out dairy, see how you go for a while then decide

Sounds like your on the right track. Watch these as they might help -

(Ellie) #4

Why do you think you need to get rid of dairy? Is it just for speeding up weight loss, or do you have other symptoms?
There are a lot of nutritional benefits to full fat dairy, including calcium which I think is more available in full fat dairy, and it also makes keto a lot more fun!
If you want to reduce dairy to reduce calories then you need to read about the myth of calories in/calories out.
If you are having digestive issues with dairy then you could try reducing some types rather than lumping all dairy in together.
It will work…give it time!

I am thinking I would finally get into Ketosis. I don’t think that I am yet and I have been HFLC for three weeks. Am I missing something?

(Ellie) #6

If you are below 20g carbs for 3 weeks then you will be in ketosis. Don’t worry if your strips are showing low, that only shows excess ketones that are spilling into your urine, nothing about how many you are actually producing or using. Even if they are showing as low then you are in ketosis. Just KCKO!

(Ellie) #7

If you want some feedback on whether you are doing it right you should post your height, weight and daily macros, and tell us what you eat in an average day.

(Allie) #8

What makes you think you’re not in ketosis, and what are you eating, macros?

(Rob) #9

@Scramiam
Dairy can mean a few diffreent things … if you’re drinking milk make sure you look at the label and see how many net carbs are in a cup of milk. Depending on the type of milk you may very well find over half your daily carbs (assuming you’re working off 20 net carbs or under) are in one cup of milk.

I’m sorry what is kcko?

Keep Calm, Keto On!

(Lisa) #12

Thanks lol.

(Lisa) #13

Sorry

5’2 220 lbs, I did loose 10 lbs (maybe water)

I try to stay in 20 carbs, 98 protein and 123 fat.

I have missed the mark once and got 21 carbs but I chalked that up to newby lol.

I keep going over on protein with meat. I eat lots of cheese. And some veggies.

I use evoo, coconut oil, heavy cream and butter in everything. I mean coffee and tea both get heavy cream and butter to get the fat up.

Also I drink apx a gallon of water a day.

(Allie) #14

98g protein would be way too high for me even with lifting weights five days a week… most women are best with between 50 - 75g

There’s nothing magic in the 20 g carb limit and there is little precision in the reported grams of carbs in various foods. You are probably best off eating foods that don’t come with nutrition labels in which case even with careful weighing, measuring and looking up nutritional breakdowns one is guesstimating at best. Eat quality foods naturally low in carbohydrate without added sugars and starches, etc. Don’t sweat the numbers just use them for a bit of guidance.

(Ellie) #16

I agree with @brownfat, keep your food simple and unprocessed. What you listed sounds good.
10lbs in 3 weeks is great, some will be water but not all. Now you just have to keep it up.
The weight did not go on overnight and it won’t come off overnight either.
You may stall for a week or two now, that is pretty normal, but keto is working and it is repairing other things that need to be fixed.
Personally I wouldn’t be changing things like omitting dairy just to try to speed things up, having dairy does make keto much easier and more enjoyable if you can eat it. You may find you need to keep an eye on the amount of cheese, just because it can add up quickly, but if you’re logging it all and you are within your macros then that’s fine.

KCKO and you’ll get there.

(Lisa) #17

I will lower it down some maybe that will help. Now the only question is what do I eat that has less protein and high fat. I have a cook book I bought right away and I have made some but one serving rarely fills me. So I end up with higher calories and protein. ( I understand calories should not be counted)

(Ellie) #18

I had the same problem at the beginning with finding a way to raise fat without raising protein.
For the me the trick was things like belly pork. I take a packed lunch to work as the canteen is all carby, so I often have roast belly pork chunks covered in mayo with celery or chopped white cabbage as a kind of salad, or today I have cheese crisp sandwiches. Take the presliced Edam or Gouda cheese and microwave it for about 2 mins until it goes bubbly. Let it cool and spread it with butter, cream cheese and ham and put 2 together to make a sandwich.
I’m 6ft1 so my protein is higher than yours, but I was struggling to keep it down until I started doing that kind of thing.

(Ellie) #19

Incidentally, my lunch today of 2 of the sandwiches I just described, with 50g of salted mixed nuts gives me:
9 net carbs (mostly the nuts)
70g fat
31 g protein
893 calories

Pretty good ratios I think apart from the carbs, although it will be an egg and bacon dinner so the carbs won’t go much above that for the day.

(Lisa) #20

Yeah that sounds good except I don’t eat pork ( religious reasons) but I did find some wonderful beef bacon at Whole Foods. And chicken sausages of all sorts of flavors.

I also think that I need to lower my cal intake (for weight loss).
