Never Thought I’d Ever Be Saying This…

(Geoffrey) #1

I’m struggling to maintain my weight. :flushed:
Never in my life have I ever had to try and NOT lose weight.
When I got down to 175lbs I thought great, that’s my weight when I went into the Army.
Then it dropped down to 170 and I thought wow, I haven’t seen that since high school but I was feeling great.
Then I hit 165 and I said whoa, that’s beyond amazing but that’s it. No more. I’ve reached the bottom weight for a 68 year old man who’s 6 feet tall.
Now for the last five days I’ve dropped down to 163. I’m having trouble getting it back up.
I’ve started eating 2MAD form OMAD but no change yet. I’m cutting back on the fats a little to see if that makes a difference. I’m also going to hit the weights a little more as well.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying how I feel but I never thought I’d ever be one of those people who needed to gain weight instead of lose weight.

Has anyone who has gotten down to their ideal weight and are now in maintenance mode experienced this and if so what did you do to keep your weight on an even keel?

Yes! i felt and looked best at 150. Bit slowly crept down to 132.
I felt okay but didn’t look healthy. So… I’ve added a late meal and am back to 142. I just have to make myself eat more.

Wow. I am pretty sure I never will have this problem. It always was easy 100-150g more fat (probably could do more) as it doesn’t satiate me but I love it. And if I overeat fat, I surely won’t lose any.

Hopefully the 2MAD will help! It is a solid idea. Gaining muscle is nice but you need to eat even more then.

Yup. Happening to me right now. I reached my goal weight of 140lbs. I thought I was eating and maintenance but now find myself at 132lbs at 5’6 (female).

I am definitely an OMAD person but I think even if I eat at maintenance on OMAD…the 24 hours fast between meals somehow makes me continue to loose weight. The only day I don’t OMAD is Saturday.

I enjoy having one large meal and don’t want to stop that. However, maybe I’ll be adding a handful of macadamia nuts or something about 4 hours after eating & seeing how that goes.

If you’re losing weight and weight lifting/exercising, I’d add fat and protein and eat more at your meals. You need both to burn the energy required so that you are building muscle and aren’t dipping into your body fat stores.

Congratulations on having a ‘problem’ that vast, immense numbers of people would kill for. :slightly_smiling_face:

It doesn’t mean it’s not very bad and potentially dangerous though… I would REALLY hate this problem, I merely know I so easily could solve such a one, being me (probably. one can never know but I am quite confident in my skills). But it would be HELL to go to a too low weight. It’s not fun, not healthy, not right.

(Geoffrey) #8

I’ll have to do some experimenting to see what works for me. I was kinda thinking that upping the protein but cutting a little of the fat might make a difference but we will see. Your advice might be the better route, we’ll see.

(Geoffrey) #9

It’s definitely a first for me. Lol!

(Robin) #10

We are exactly the same height and same lowest weight!

#11

If you need extra energy, fat sounds the good idea though. Of course the human body works in interesting ways so it’s not that simple but no one can make energy from nothing and it’s easy to get a lot from fat…
Either way, you try things and hopefully something will help very soon!

#12

Happy coinkidink  I better do what you did then and start adding a late meal. The problem is just that I am usually still quite satisfied until I go to sleep. Hence, perhaps just macadamia nuts later in the day. I definitely don’t want to lose anymore.

(Robin) #13

Macadamia nuts should be perfect. yum!

#14

I do not think I will ever have this problem!

Again I would do the reverse if you want to gain. I would start having two or three meals a day. I would eat my last meal later unless you suffer from heartburn. I think the Atkins diet has a mechanism for adding carbs while in maintenance. I am not familiar but remember hearing about it. The idea I think is you keep adding small amounts of carbs until you are maintaining your weight rather than losing but I could be mistaken. Also getting cravings would concern me in that situation

Assuming your health has been good on your current diet, I’d start with more meals - skip the OMAD or TMAD and have lunch, and see if that helps. I know carbs will put the weight back on, but that’s not really the way you want to do it, I think that would really encourage a yo-yo effect.

#16

I wouldn’t add carbs unless I specifically wanted them but I easily could add fat while others say it is satiating to them. As far as I know some people need carbs to avoid undereating even when underweight but until it’s surely/probably the case, I would just try to add more meals (whenever it feels okay and natural enough. even if there is no hunger, sometimes I easily can eat and sometimes it’s just the wrong time for it) and more fat.

In my case, carbs definitely helps with eating more but they are only “needed” for OMAD and they have their disadvantages.

Do you think that eating a natural diet means we find a natural weight?
I dropped like a stone initally, hit the bottom, and then put 2 lbs back on. I was a little upset but I’ve kept this weight and believe this is right for me!

(Rosemary Easter) #18

Hi, the same is happening to me. After a long stall I started losing perhaps half to one pound a week. My initial goal was 10 1/2 stones down from 12 1/2 stones. Suddenly the weight started moving to 10 1/2 stones (147 pounds) great but is still going. I am now 135 pounds and I think still losing. I am 70 years old, female, 5 ft 10 inches tall. My clothes are falling off me especially upper body, amazingly still got a bit of a tummy! I feel well, I lift weights as trying to put on muscle. I eat 2mad and don’t think I could eat another meal but adding more butter to meals. I am not really concerned as am sure it will stop soon but my daughter pointed out I may be ill which once put in your head is concerning!

(Rosemary Easter) #19

By the way I am nearly 4 years carnivore so would not consider adding carbs back. Geezy56 are you?

(Megan) #20

Yes, he is.
