I had not heard that. Even if I lose weight, I doubt my arteries will clear. Anyone know if this , keto, will help with that??
Negative keto comments
I told my brother and he was worried about me feeling weak and my cholesterol going up, I told him I’d be fine and he just gave me a weird look and changed the subject. #Whatever
No expert but I think the answer is it depends and it depends on who you ask. Dr. Nally claims he has seen improvement after a year or two. Other people claim that if it is calcium blockage nothing will help it short of a procedure
I really don’t have a worst experience yet, because when my sister in law, who is gaining weight rapidly with worsening bio markers, responds ‘that is too much fat’, I respond, ‘It’s the keto diet, amen’, and that shut her up, my wife is telling her about the keto diet as she is on board now and listening to the 2ketodudes podcasts. I took a nutrition course in college and the instructor (who had a clear case of metabolic syndrome) told me the low carb diet was unhealthy and no way to diet and destroy ones body. I told her that it was my best choice for weight loss, but she probably also thought my arteries were clogged.
I come here from the the My Fitness Pal world. That entire platform is dedicated to CICO only with little thought to anything else. There are some rogue Keto’ers out there, but they are few and far in between. I have almost been driven to tears by some of the nasty, vicious backlash directed at Dr. Fung, Dr. Berg and the Keto lifestyle. People are so hateful and nasty and some of it gets personal. I am a coward and I never attempt to go into those forums to defend Dr. Fung because the vile hate would immediately be directed at me and I am too weak to take it. But I do troll the comments to try to find people who are brave enough to defend this way of life and I immediately friend request them =0)
I will never understand why people get so caught up in HOW you lose weight instead of just being happy that you are healthy and successful. When I share with MFP pals how CICO never worked for me and almost killed me, they always accuse me of “just not trying hard enough”, or “not being disciplined”. I got to the point where I was only eating 1200 calories per day trying to be “disciplined” and I was still not losing weight. It was not sustainable and I gained back 62 pounds after initially losing only 40. Once you get down to only eating 1200 calories, where do you go from there? I appreciate that keto is not for everyone and that many people can reach their goals from being vegan, or pescetarian or zero carb or high carb…whatever works is what everyone needs to do. It just so happens that Insulin resistance is a phenomenon that afflicts many people and Keto is typically the answer. But you have to know that you are suffering from IR before you can apply the keto solution. Otherwise, you could spend years failing to regain your health.
At this point, I just tell everyone that I stopped eating sugar and most fruits. I keep it as simple as possible. But if they show legitimate interest, then I try to educate them with the full keto story. I truly wonder how history is going to judge the Keto lifestyle.
I bump into this a bit. I lead with no sugar or grains to get their heads nodding. Then add moderate protein. More head nodding. Leave it at that. When I have a massive greens salad at lunch with the ladies and a piece of salmon, double order of green veggies with butter, no starch. No one even blinks. Looks healthy, is healthy, is keto.
FYI I love Dr berg. So encouraging. That’s the person that got me thinking about keto. He pushes lots of greens. You must.
I have never eaten so much green veggies. So low carb.
Yes to everything you said!! When I first joined MFP I saw they were hostile to low carb but I accidentally posted about LCHF in the main forums instead of my friendly LC group!! I felt sick to my stomach all day because I knew I’d made myself a target. I had to get an admin to delete the post for me & he even apologized for the trolls. I never did look at what the responses were because who needs that??
There are definitely great LC & Keto groups on there & all my MFP friends are Keto but this place, the Keto forum, is truly the gold standard for LCHF interactions that uplift instead of tear down.
Also, I can’t help but think about how CICO does work, for awhile, until it doesn’t. And how all those hateful CICOphants will find themselves bewildered & demoralized like we were until we found Keto. It’s pretty sad. I hope they give LCHF a chance & come over to the bacon side lol
And one more thing about the MFP CICO crowd, they ALL complain about being cold all the time, they think it’s because they lost weight, but WE know it’s because they unintentionally slowed their metabolisms!!!
Religion, politics, global warming, child rearing, keto. In polite society, stick to the weather.
And don’t even mention fasting!!! If you do, some well intentioned “know it all” will call 911 to have you restrained for your own personal safety.
This is true for me as well after 8 months on keto. It drives me nuts. I am concerned about my metabolism
I’m thinking thyroid. I am hypo. I take thyroid, it helps me, and many older gals, with chilliness, and hairloss.
My employer has one of those health and well being programs and I get dinged every year because I refuse to lie and tell them I’m a fat avoiding grain swilling sheeple. They also won’t let me remove “diabetes” and “high blood pressure” from my list of health issues.
I’m frustrated because I just popped in there and tried to do it this morning for the year ahead… all the coaching and webinars are (of course) all low fat high carb propaganda, but if I want the ‘free’ money (employer contribution to a Health Savings Account), I have to at least go through the motions of “learning what a healthy diet is”.
The biggest response I get after “That’s not healthy” and “You NEED xxx amount of carbs every day” is “What are you going to do once you hit your goal weight?”… HA! As if I’d ever go back! (we won’t even go into the sabotage attempts because they “love” me). I don’t even tell anyone I do IF because their heads would explode.
I have a hard time explaining to people that I chose this lifestyle to take care of my T2. Both my parents died from T2 based diseases… My weight loss is just a nice side effect, but it was never my primary reason for going keto. It’s like asking me what I’m going to do once my blood sugars readings are in the normal range every day!
WTH? This is my life now… I’m pharmaceutical free, I’m down 60#, I look healthy, I feel healthy… So, what AM I going to do after I’m tired of being so healthy? LOL
I have Hashi, but am already on pills for that. If anything I think my thyroid is a little better since I am losing.
I was the person wearing short sleeves in winter. Now I am wearing sweatshirts under my coat and I am still cold. I sleep with an extra blanket
Hmmm, that stinks. Maybe after you reach goal try increasing calories to increase your metabolism?
I would go in if the money is free. Maybe you can convince the dietician!
As for removing it, I believe @Brenda was able to remove T2 when her A1C went to 5
Oh dear, if you are already doing thyroid, all I can suggest is. Pregnancy. Always warmed me up. Kidding sapphire, wish I had an answer for you.

Ha!
Those were the days!
Actually only the second half, during the first trimester I would be colder than usual

Just watched a video on brown fat vs white fat. Your keto should be making your white fat act more like brown fat which provides the heat we produce. Not sure why you and I are cold. Unless I’m flashing, I’m cold. A high beef protein meal will heat me up.
