Need some encouragement, tips, advice

I cannot seem to get past the snacking, going over my carbs. Every day I get up and plan on sticking with my plan, but I find myself going in and grabbing that Quest bar, making a peanut butter sandwich, something. especially at night. I think it’s because I’m bored. I’ve had to stop working due to my mother’s health, I can’t work and still take her to her appointments with her health issues. I have a side hustle business, but I’ve lost clients recently and can’t seem to get any more. I initially lost some weight, but now it’s starting to creep back on. Y’all help, please!

I would suggest one of two ideas:

The first one being try to do a total fast for a few days; even though this might sound so hard and crazy to you, it will reset your Ketosis and then you will be back on track and can continue with a 12-12 to start to keep on track. This is what I would personally do if I got off track. If this option is just not possible for you to do… then

The second option I would do is eat 3 meals a day… start out with bacon, eggs and Keto coffee or some green tea and then have a lunch with protean and some spinach and broccoli fried up in some extra virgin olive oil and an avocado maybe. Then for supper have a nice steak, or chicken, with some nice crispy skin.
Just making sure you are getting enough protean, fats, and your carbs are under 20g,zero sugar, and that you drink tons and tons of water.

Your body will adjust in no time, and as soon as you are back in Ketosis, it will all be much easier, you can do this!

Good luck =)) Susan

Welcome Sherri.

I would suggest trying to keep the food that you eat as simple and real as possible. Example:

Breakfast: scrambled eggs and bacon
Lunch: grilled salmon and a small salad
Dinner: Ribeye w/ a cup of buttered green beans

Get rid of the quest bars, peanut butter and especially bread. Surround yourself with single item whole foods and try not to snack. But if a snack of a few almonds, a boiled egg or a handful of pork rinds keeps you from relapsing back to processed carbs, it’s the lessor of evils.

Don’t be afraid to eat larger meals when you do eat. If you eat a nice steak at 6pm then there’s no reason you should have real hunger at 10 PM. It took me a while to break my habit of a snack before bed and eating more at dinner helped me break it.

Those are great tips, I will do the best I can. I cannot eat normal large meals, as I’ve had gastric bypass 16 years ago, and can only hold 3 oz of a 6 oz steak. Might be able to push it to 4oz. That and keeping myself busy! Thanks!

Maybe try adding more fat with your meals. Even a spoonful of coconut oil might help with satiety. For me, fattier foods were more satisfying and kept me full longer. Especially since you can only eat small amounts of food, adding more fat just might help.

You know, that’s probably the key! Just getting more fats in! I will definately try that. Thanks! Sometimes I just can’t see the forest for the trees!

I’d get rid of the Quest bars and peanut butter. There are certain “good” foods that I can’t have in the house (nuts, peanut butter, gotta be careful with cheese), because I will binge on them or have more than I should. If you are hungry and snacking, I would say to eat either more meals (3xday) or eat more at the meals you are eating. If you eat enough food and fat (to satiety, not uncomfortably full), I don’t think you’ll be hungry or have the desire to snack.

Do not bring things you do not want to eat into the house. If they are there for your Mom, find replacements, she has health issues and doesn’t need them either.

Eating fattier meats will help a lot, even if you are only eating 3 or so oz. per serve.

Also some of this is probably stress eating. Being a caregiver is very stressful Take time out to meditate or do something that really relaxes you, read books or something that slows you down. You might want to join a caregivers group, they are fairly common these days. If Mom is over 65 look around for aging groups that provide volunteers so the caregiver can take some time off.

All the best to you on staying on plan and hope your Mom’s condition gets better too.

No, girl. Don’t keep that stuff around. Peanut butter is so easy to overdo and is p high in carbs as well.

I can’t keep walnuts in the house, nor sunflower seeds, nor almond butter. I plan to have them once/week when at goal weight (4lbs away ).

I find it easier to avoid completely rather than have it in the cupboard and have to exert restraint.
