Need help with Canker sore it is taking over my life
You mentioned you tried many over the counter options
What about baking soda and warm water rinse?
A couple of years ago, that worked for me
Maybe even hydrogen peroxide
Sorry
Good Luck
Canker sores can be a sign of B12 deficiency. Regular supplementation should help. There are two different types of B12, but Methylcobalamin is the one you want. I recommend this brand: https://www.vitacost.com/pure-advantage-b-12-spray
You could also try supplementing with L-Lysine… but I think you’ll find the B12 will do the trick on it’s own!
Gluten causes canker sores for me. Certain foods also make my mouth hurt: pineapple, walnuts, sometimes citrus. It could be something you are eating.
How long have you been keto? I suffered from canker sores every month during my period for 15 years. Even when I had a hysterectomy, the canker sores continued each month when it would have been time for my period, like clockwork. I’ve been keto now for almost 3 months and not a single canker sore since then.
I have suffered fo most of my life with this problem. Going Keto has helped and these:
Three things that have helped me:
eating no tomato [nightshades]
coconut pulling [put in mouth and let melt slowly away]
CBD oil [from the hemp plant]
Now I rarely get a sore in my mouth.
Hope this helps.
From what I understand…Cold sores, Canker sores are the same? From the Herpes virus - Chicken Pox.
I took 1.5 grams morning and night for 3 days. It seemed to work. Once you get the Herpes virus it stays in your system forever. I keep a bottle of Lysine 500 mg. in my cupboard at all times.
NATASHA
I’ve tried B12 3000 mcg dietary supplement for about 3 weeks. That didn’t work. But the one I took was Cyanocobalamin. I will try yours thanks…
Another L-Lysine fan, I take 1,000 mg daily to prevent them. Larger doses are used to treat, 3 x Day is one suggestion. https://www.peoplespharmacy.com/2016/12/18/can-you-avoid-cold-sores-by-taking-l-lysine/
No, canker sores and cold sores are not the same. Cold sores come from the herpes virus, canker sores do not.
Interesting. Around the time I started keto, I also made and started using my own toothpaste and stopped using my Crest… maybe that is the real remedy?
I once thought my increased dosage of vitamin D is what helped my canker sores go away, but I really don’t supplement that anymore; however, after eating keto, I have spent more time outside, and getting more sun exposure.
I also once thought taking vitamin C daily helped, but ultimately I really don’t know. Sorry.
There’s a lot of good advice here. I hope something will help.
A long time ago a pharmacist told my husband that his fever blisters were a vitamin B deficiency, Niacin. As soon as he would feel one coming on he would take Niacin. There are two types of Niacin, one that is non flush, and the other causes flushes. It always did the job. Took a few days.
Now we see our dermatologist who gives us a prescription.
If you have access to a doctor, you may be able to get a script for a mouth rinse I have used for years to get rid of mouth sores. I used to get them so bad, like 8 or 9 at a time. (RA meds made my skin fragile) I did some research and found this med that military docs used to prescribe for aids patients who get mouth sores really bad. It is Dexamethasone elixir. If you use this a few times a day it takes the soreness out and makes it go away within a few days. I have changed doctors but kept the script, lol. It’s kind of pricy without insurance, though. (to me, anyway. I think it was about $45 per bottle several years ago when I didn’t have insurance)
Canker Sores vs. Cold Sores: THE DIFFERENCE Dr. Berg differentiates between a canker sore versus a cold sore.
CANKER SORE;
*Inside lip or mouth
*This is a vitamin deficiency (B12 or folate)
-this comes from consuming refined grains
-It could come from a digestive problem because you’re not absorbing these B-vitamins.
COLD SORE:
*On the lip or around the mouth
*Virus (herpes simplex)
*Activated by stress
*Contagious
*Take lysine and vitamin C (make sure its a food complex)
