Necessity/usefulness of MCTs if you're already established in ketosis

(Nimitta) #1

I’ve been in ketosis for about 2 weeks. I’m experiencing the weight loss, cognitive improvements, increased energy, etc. I love it.

My question is whether MCT supplementation, like from purified MCT oil, would be useful in any way since I’m already in ketosis.

I’ve searched the forum and haven’t found a clear answer to this.

Thanks

I believe that because there are lots of different opinions on it.

I will say if you do decide to add it, be sure to start of conservatively and work up. That stuff can do a number on your digestive track until you get used to it.

Useful: Maybe, if you’re athletic, perhaps.

Required: Absolutely not.

I’ve got half a bottle of it sitting around. I’m pretty sure I’ll never use it ever again (just like my Ketonix breath meter).

When I was first starting out, before I was fat adapted, I would use it regularly but also after a dietary slip up (too many carbs) for a day or two until I was firmly back in ketosis. Now, not so much. I might use MCT when skipping breakfast but feel like I need something, if I’m struggling to get in extra fat, for extra energy occasionally or if I need extra mental focus.

I take 3 mct oil softgels with along with my other vitamins every morning. My ketone readings are always good so I think they help.
